Malcom,
In March 2005 I purchased the family bible starting with Henry and Elizabeth Van Order off of Ebay. Some of the names you have mentioned are included in this bible… It starts with Henry>Harrison >Norman >Hattie"VanOrder Birch> Leslie Van Order Birch. It also includes dates for Rueben H. and Harry Phillips, Hattie’s brothers. It is a large family bible that was published in 1790. The dates start in 1796 and the last date is 1904. I found the will posted by John Van Order for this Harrison Van Order on Ancestry Message Board on Apr 27, 1999. It includes some of the names and dates mentioned in this bible.
The marriages in the bible are:
David M Foot married to Laura Lyon on Feb 27, 1833
David M Foot married to Harrett H. Wheeler (Wheeber?) Feb 9 1856
Harrison Van Order married to Hattie E. Foot on Aug 14, 1852
Norman S. Van Order married to Sallie J. Meaker on July 3, 1872
Rueben VanOrder married to Mable Norton on May 23, 1902
Hattie Van Order married to Parker Birch on Sept 21, 1897
Harry P. Van Order married Apr 23, 1903. (there is no wife written on this entry, just the marriage date.)
It also includes births, marriages, deaths, etc.
There was a hand written piece of paper found in the bible as follows:
H.V Born March 28th 1796
E.V " Nov 19, 1801
A. V " Dec 13, 1820
E. V " Apr 6 1823
L. V " Sept 10 1824
H. V " March 7, 1827
N.V " Jan 13 1834
D. V. "Delia Sept 15, 1835
Martha V " Nov 12 1837
Maranda V " Feb 13 1840
Joana V. " Feb 15 1842
Norman S. V " May 27 1853
I can match up H.V. and E.V as Henry and Elizabeth Van Order…, H.V born 1834 would be Harrison, also Norman S. but the rest are not mentioned in bible.
When I seen it on Ebay I HAD to bid on it. It’s a shame that these old bibles are out there and the family members don’t even know about them.
I have done research on the Van Nurden/Vannurden, Van Orden and Van Norden families for 34 years and was very excited to run across this Van Order bible. I have always made a record of all the various spellings, including this one, but had no record of this family in my database. I hope some of this information will be helpful.
