Would like to talk to members of the Adams family that lived near Mongaup and may have been buried in Lower Mongaup cemetery. I am related through James William Adams and John Q. Adams.

Thanks

Rich

Hi Rich,
Your John Q. ADAMS was my great-grandfather William ADAMS' brother. Yes, their parents are buried in Lower Mongaup Cemetery. However, their mother was Margaret Jane CORTRIGHT. The Hexton or Haxton was Mary, mother of Wm. James ADAMS. John Q. ADAMS and wife Arminda had two daughters and raised a nephew as their own after his mother (John Q. ADAMS' sister) died in childbirth. Hope this helps. Elaine

Elaine -

Thank you for your reply! I have been trying to do some research on the Adams family but they are a hard group to research. Do you know of any photos of this family? Or tombstone pictures from Lower Mongaup? Or family stories? I am trying to put together the family history for my Mom for her birthday in August but lack a lot of information. This is how I am related. John Q. Adams and Arminda Cortright. As you said they had two daugters, Emma and Loretta. Loretta married Wilbur Westfall. They had a son named John Albert "Pat" Westfall who married Margaret Moulton. Their son Donald Albert Westfall married Margarete Fuller. They are the parents of my Mom, Sharon Westfall Herndon.

So, can you provide any help? I do have a picture of Loretta Adams if you would like to add that to your collection or research, but I really lack anything else. Except that some of the Adams are buried at Mill Rift cemetery in Pike County as well.

Again, thank you so much for your help and hope to hear from you soon.

Rich

Rich,
I will have to dig through my info. to see just what I have collected over the years on this family. It's been awhile and you may already have some of it. I did a reading of all remaining stones in Lower Mongaup Cem. in the 90's, but it has since been so vandalized, I don't know what's left. If there's some way I can email you directly, I would prefer that some of this info. be kept private, especially those still living such as one of Emma's grandsons (he gave me a lot of info. years ago I wouldn't have gotten otherwise) and your mother's sister (we used to live on the same street for 6 years). Yes, I'll try to help you give your mother a wonderful birthday gift. Elaine
