Husband Is Charged
With Throwing Wife
Out, Fracturing Leg
Canton, June 8—Fred Melvin of
Kent's Corners Road, Hermon, has
been released under $500 bail, by
Justice of the Peace Leon G.
Crary, who held him for the grand
jury on a charge of assault in the
second degree.
According to an affidavit signed
by Mrs. Melvin's daughter; Mrs.
Eva Welch Priest, Melvin threw
his wife, Emma, 56, ,out of the
house onto a concrete platform,
shortly after noon on Tuesday. Although
Mrs. Melvin sustained a
broken right leg, she managed to
crawl across the road to the Pickett
farmhouse where she was given
first aid. She was later taken to
the office of Dr. Fred Allen at
Richville and afterward removed
to the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital
where she is under the care of Dr.
Grant C. Madill.
Melvin was arrested, Friday by
Sergeatn Leo Lavasseur of the
Canton patrol.
