You CAN get your deceased mom's death certificate before 50 years, Have both of mine. All you have to do is prove connection. Do it by mail, Include your birth cert, etc Write in permanent marker on form "my Birth & photo ID enclosed"...they will return to you. Do yourself a favor and don't call; you'll get different info from different people. I'm sharing 30 years experience w u.

Don't worry about spelling errors. They know that. You have to give names of your mother's parents.
