Hello. Much of the more "recent" history of my family takes place in Putnum County, NY -- mostly Kent. One big mystery has been my great-great grandmother where the line stops. Her names was Martha Smith and married Osborne Kirk and their daughter married Chester Ballard ( my maiden name). I found Martha's obituary today, the first new clue after years of looking. She was born in 1870 in Mahopac Falls but does not giver her parents names. I am wondering if any Smith trees in that area and time have a Martha in them. I was also told she was part Native American and originally I thought this is why she has been so tough to trace. Every other line I have going back to at least the 1600s. I would discount the Native American stuff as lore but her I knew her grandkids when they were alive and they said their mom looked pure Native American and my dad had been asked what tribe he is in. I have been asked if I am Japanese. All other lines are solid English/Dutch with smatterings of Irish, French and German.
