I am sure that Most of the Comstock families can be traced bak to New London CT. Rhode Island was NOT the first place immigrants thought of when they came to America.
The Arnold Family of Rhode Island were I believe the Govenors of that Colony. The Comstocks were married to that line. They originated from Connecticutt as did Henry Tompkins Paige Comstock of the Comstock Load Mine who was born in Canada but visited relatives in Coopertown NY.

Sarah Sabrina Cooper Comstock the Niece of James Fenimore Cooper married "General Comstock" who moved to Michigan after the War of 1812. Her son was William Comstock Ace of Scouts. He thought he was part Cherokee, he was ACTUALLY the decendent of UNCAS the Mohegan whom James F Cooper used as a Model for the fiction character in his books.

People such as Jared Comstock was a teacher that moved near Coopertown from New London Ct. Being related to both Uncas and Benidict Arnold they were Coy about their backgrounds.
The Native blood line came from Mary Atwell whom married Kingsland Comstock in the 1690's. Her Nephew Joseph Atwell then married Martha Comstock in the 1730's.

Mary Atwell was daughter of Benjamin Atwell and Mary_____
who was no doubt Mohegan. It has not been determined if Benjamin Atwell was native himself or related to the Maine Line of Atwells.

the Atwell line suffered from disease and persicution. The Comstock line was very interesting I will attach a file showing the Comstocks whom made it in Government.
