I found something today that I think you might be interested in. It's a newspaper notice of probate for the heirs of the Dan Polly property in Orleans Co. It appears to list the heirs of the Humphreys and there is an Irish listed. The date is in the 1890's. If you want to send me your email I can send you the file, if you don't have it already.

Barbara

Thanks for sending me the link. I've just started looking at the Polly family in Orleans and saw Elsie Polly's name as the wife of Henry Humphrey. I don't know anything more about the Humphreys at this point. Sorry.

Daniel Polly, Elsie's father, was I believe the brother of my 4ggrandfather Hiram Polly/Polley. Their father, I believe, was Prosper Polly who was born in Lebanon CT and moved to Lenox, Berkshire, MA. He served in the Revolutionary War and was a deputy sheriff of Berkshire Co.

Prosper bought land along with several other investors in the Phelps and Gorham Purchase. He was living in Onondaga, Onondaga in the 1800 census.

It's been very difficult to tie Hiram and Daniel to Prosper Polly. There's circumstantial evidence, but I haven't found any birth records. The only birth records in Lenox that I can find for Prosper and his wife Sarah (she is buried in the Polly/Locust Grove cemetery in Monroe Co, near Clarendon) are for Ruth, Salla and Ebenezer. Ruth married Heli Foote. They lived in Deerfield, Oneida NY and Ruth moved to Freedom, Cattaraugus, NY where she died.

If you would like me to send more detailed information on the Pollys, such as dates, please let me know. I'm writing this from memory as I don't have my research handy and they haven't been entered in my database yet.

Barbara

There's a scanned copy of a book called The Van Gieson Family in America that you can access free through familysearch.org. That provides a very detailed discussion of all of Reinier Van Giesen's descendants. (The name's spelling was changed in the 1700s). If you Google the title of the book, the fourth link that comes up will take you to an LDS Family History Library page with a link that allows you to see a digital version of the book.

My family is descended from Reinier Van Giesen's third son, Abraham.

My husband, Rich Clark, is Seymour's son and, of course, a grandson of Harry R and Sophia Smith Clark. We believe that this is a picture of Seymour due to the period look of the frame and clothing style. Thanks so much for posting it. We have been researching Rich's genealogy for almost four years now and have managed to trace back to the 16th century on most of his lines, including the Smith line. Have a lot of info on his grandmother Sophia but could only get back to Adrestus Clark, who is Harry's grandfather.
