I am searching for info also, My documents say William Henry Wood (brn 1842) mothers maiden name is Cavitt, this would have to be Nelsons first wife not his second, I can not find any info on Her. I think that maybe she died in childbirth. Nelson married Julia in 1843, I just started researching this line for a member of Williams family, he has death certificates. Good Morning! During the years above, I believe there were several families living near each other who aided each other during troubles. Early fires have erased the records, but I am hoping someone has some information passed on by those who lived then.

The family names were: PEASE, NEWMAN, RALL/RULL/ROLL, (Jonah) DAVIS, and JEROME.

Did any of these families live near each other? I would be happy to learn any information that is still available. Thank you, Patricia

Do a search for him in Ancestry (Brainerd at Rome... will find things) or in Google to read his obituary. It lays out general timelines for how he got started, when he bought out his partner, etc. I have unknown folks in Brainerd photos (the originals are not with me) and am using various sources to try to date them, including when he was active.

As you'll see there's no Aaron. If you have other evidence that Aaron Jr.'s father is Aaron, great, otherwise consider an alternative. My 2g grandfather Harvey Ray Jr's father was Robert. That fact created a brick wall for many years.
Upon learning of the availability of these records I found a will in Livingston Co for my 4g grandfather. We'd had HIS name wrong, but the will made clear he was the man we were looking for. Give some of the others a try; there may be some clues
Or maybe Aaron Sr died at a child's residence outside Ontario County.

A spelling correction to the message may help. Martha Clark, daughter of Benjamin Clark and Thankful Watkins m. Elias B. KINNE. This family settled in Leonidas, St. Joseph Co, Michigan and can be found there in FindAGrave. Benjamin Clark was a brother of Col. William Clark, as mentioned in History of Ontario Co, NY by Aldrich. Some of this family settled in Grass Lake, Jackson Co, MI, along with members of connected families: WATKINS, METCALF

Her death record in Minnesota says that her parents were James and Susan King.

Seeking ancestry of David CARLOUGH, who was born July 28, 1797, New Jersey, and relocated to Hopewell, Ontario Co., New York, probably by 1830. (The 1855 New York State Census states that his son David, who was born in 1830, was born in Ontario Co., New York.)

Note that this family appears on the 1850 census with their surname spelled “CARLOW,” but all other records that I have found so far for this family show the spelling as “CARLOUGH.”

I've gotten back to Thomas Nash and Rachael Nash, and chased Rachael's ancestors all the way back through the kings of England, France, Spain, Ireland.... Big family! Stuck on the ancestors of Thomas Nash now. Thanks for the tip, though. I'll check it out and see if it yields any clues!

He is the one. Let me read through the chain here and see if it fills the gaps. I did find that his parents were Stephen Chubb and Rebecca Nash, and Stephen's father was also Alexander Chubb (b. 1706). I traced Rebecca's family back to Joseph Kellogg (1626-1707) and Abigail Terry (1646-1726).

Their children were Luther, Achsah, Lovina, James, Abijah, Phebe, Mary and Joseph, all born between 1780 and 1803.

If you are a descendant of one of these children, did you ever wonder where their birthdates came from? I am, and I do. In 1969, with the publication of the two volumn Edson books, they were not named and no dates were given. Immediately after that publication their names and dates were known. Why? What came to the surface in that time that changed the known facts? If you have any ideas, please share them, as I have not found this new source yet, and I really want to know. Paul

My 4th Great Grandfather was Joel Graves Porter. He was born in Vermont around 1803. He married Cordelia Armstrong in 1826 and ended up finally living in Newfane New York.

I have been having trouble trying to determine who his parents were.

According to the 1880 Census, his father was born in Vermont and his mother was born in Massachusetts.

Since his middle name was Graves and he seemed to follow the same geographical path as your Porters, I thought it possible that John and Zilpah were his parents.

I was wondering if you had a list of children that your John and Zilpah had?

I am seeking more information on my great grandfather John Sarantis and his wife Sevasti. He was born Jan 7 1887 and died Aug 1980. He lived in Williamson, NY, Wayne County and had a son named Harry Sarantis who was born May 10 1924 and died in August 1995. Harry married Mary Sotir in Williamson, NY. Mary Sotir has four siblings, Alexander, Helen, Kay and Theodore Sotir. John and Sevasti immigrated from Niata, Greece. John immigrated to the US in 1907 at the age of 20.

I haven't worked on my Chubb line a while. What I have in the computer only goes back to Joel Chubb because he is my oldest confirmed ancestor. I will have to look for my "paperwork" on this family. What I do know is that someone had a DAR record naming Joel's father as Harvey Chubb and his mother as Caroline (can't remember the surname). There is a Harvey Chubb in Michigan in the 1840s. Also Joel's oldest son is Named James Harvey. James' mother's (Sarah Dyer)father was named James and James Chubb's had a son named Joel Anson named after both his grandfathers. I will try to get back to you once I've located my notes on the Chubbs.

Alexander Chubb's marriage to Mindwell Wheeler is documented in the "Barbour Collection of Connecticut Towns Vital Records Volume 23 - Litchfield 1719-1854.
This record shows the marriage of Alexander Chubb and Mindwell Wheeler on 03/09/1786. It shows the birth of son Stephen Nash on 12/9/1786, daughter Claret on 9/1/1788 and son Alexander on 3/9/1790. This is in Barkhamsted in Litchfield County, Connecticut.

I believe this is the Alexander Chubb that served as a Private in Captain Mill's company for Connecticut in the Revolutionary War.

The book "Northfield on the Genesee" documents early times in Monroe County, NY, with town minutes and highway records, 1796-1814 of Dr. John Ray and Samuel Kempton, town clerks, and biographies of nearly 500 early families. Alexander and Mindwell Chubb are documented repeatedly in this book. Alexander and Joseph Chubb were 2 of 8 men hired to put in a road in Genessee. He earned land in Pittsford as part of his payment for making the road.

"Northfield" also documents both Alexander and Mindwell dying on the same day during the pneumonia epidemic of 1812. The exact location of Alexander's grave is unknown, but there is a plaque on a stone in the Pioneer Burying Ground in Pittsford of Monroe County, New York and you can see a picture the stone at findagrave.com. So far I haven't found a record for Mindwell's grave.

Two sons of Alexander Chubb and Mindwell Wheeler, Alexander and his younger brother Franklin, went west to the Michigan territory. Franklin went first and then was joined by Alexander. They are documented there in the "History of Ionia and Montcalm counties". Both Alexander and Franklin are listed in the 1840 census of Lyons Township, Ionia County, Michigan. Only Franklin is listed in the 1850 census. I believe Alexander passed away between 1840 and 1850.

I would be interested in sharing any information you have on the Chubbs.

Just a bit late with an answer, but I just found this. Yes, the Starckes are probably all related. There are many here in Texas. They came from Germany in the 1850's. Hayes was an inventor of a dental device called an articulator.

I also have a Samuel Finch associated with the locations you have noted. My Samuel was born probably by 1750 (est. based on ages of children) and died between 19 May 1804 (date of will) and 29 Jun 1804 (date of probate) in Easton (now Gorham), Ontario County, New York. He is perhaps the Samuel Finch who was a head of household in the 1790 U.S. Census in Saratoga, Albany (later Saratoga) County, New York. The family was in Greenfield, Saratoga County in the 1790s. My Samuel’s son-in-law, Asahel Parker moved to Huron County, Ohio about 1817.

Ontario County Deeds, and most other counties in New York, have been microfilmed with the digital images available to browse online at FamilySearch.com. Many of the probate records are also available to browse at FamilySearch.

Samuel FINCH in Ontario County in 1820

Samuel Gardner FINCH born about 1760 in Orange County, NY; was married there to Hannah McDougal in 1781; and was the father of Samuel B. FINCH born about 1790 when the family lived near Saratoga. I believe both Samuels may have lived in Ontario County, NY in 1820. In that census, Samuel (G) FINCH is noted in Milo town and Samuel B FINCH is noted in Richmond town. Are there any will indices or deed indices that would enable one to see when this family arrived and left? Samuel B. I would like to know about the family bible that you have on the family of Moses. I am trying to connect my Angeline Grover to Phila Sophia Porter.
Angeline marries Ezekiel Kyle in Delaware County, IN. Angeline and Ezekiel have three young children buried next to Phila Sophia. Angeline is born in 1818, which would mean that Phil Sophia was pregnant when Joseph Grover died. Phila Sophia Grover is found in the 1820 census with two females under 10.
