My grandfather, Charles (born in 1867 in Michigan), was the son of Samuel and Mary Helms. Samuel, I thought, was the son of Jacob and Temperance, but I don't see a listing for their children.

Samuel was born around 1836 or 37 and died in 1916 in Perrinton, Michigan. His mother was born in Connecticut so I thought for sure that fit Jacob and Temperance's births.

Interesting you said there is a Mr. & Mrs. Charles Helms buried in a Portland Cemetary as my grandparents are buried in a Portland cemetary, only in Oregon!

Grandpa was over 50 years old when my dad (also a Charles) was born so when I came along, Grandpa was 87!

Is Helms a German name or British name? I am discoverig through the undocumented research that it is German...Helm.
