Apparently, a particular fabrication of the ancestry of Joris Jansen Rapalje (of Valenciennes, later Brooklyn, New York) has been perpetuated. Here's the URL to the PDF file (viewable in Adobe Acrobat Reader):

www.genlit.org/agr/include/getdoc.php?id=37&article=10&a...

The author makes a strong case. The -father- of so-called "Gaspard Colet de Rapalje" actually said his son Gaspard died at the age of 14-15.

Here are a couple of websites which perpetuate the notion:
- http://nortvoods.net/rapleeeurope.html
note: this website references a book which references the fabricated genealogical book... however, there is still some useful information on the site (and cute sketches of the family coat of arms).

Nice thing is, the second website also disputes some proposed lineage connections:

This is a friendly reminder to always *check sources* and their dates! =)
