Seeking location and years of operation of New York photographer H.M. VAUPEL. I suspect the photographer was in business in the early 1900s.

I checked the 1903 NYC Directory (which at the moment is the only directory I have access to). In what we would probably call the "yellow page" listings, there was a "Vaupel, Herman M. 374 Lex Av" in the Photographers section.

I did not see him in the 1915 directory that Ancestry has if that helps any.

And knowing the address allows me to compare the person's home address with the photographer's address. I suspect my relatives chose a photographer close to their residences.

Yes, yes, yes!!! I would love to know more about your great grandfather and his work! Last year I was gifted with family portraits taken in NYC and Brooklyn, NY around the turn of the century. The portraits were undated and the subjects unidentified, but the photographer's name was clearly printed on each portrait frame. I have attempted to match the NYC residence of a family member with a local photographer in an attempt to identify the person in the portrait. I am most appreciative of any information you can share about your great grandfather. Would it help in any way if I shared the portrait I am trying to identify?
