Dear Brenda:

Not sure if you are still there but I was looking for info. on Eileen and Jerry Hodges who are my relatives. Jerry is my second cousin on my mom's side......she was a Hodges. They were wonderful people and devout Catholics and visited us many times in Watertown, NY. I lost track of them in 2002. I am an immigration attorney in Atlanta GA and have much information and would love to catch up with their children, I remember Mary and Chris most vividly. Hope you are well and we can chat. Jim Hartz

(Back in the 1970's the daughter Mary did a family tree that traced the Hodges back to Richard Warren of the MayFlower. I may still have a copy of the research.)

Wow your note to Sharon Warner has me very excited. I have not heard from Sharon Warner in a very long time and even then when I wrote her back she did not keep in touch. Now I am the Great, Great Grand Daughter of Wolfgang Steger, and there is a connection of Margaret Steger to them but I cannot seem to make it. I currently live in Las Vegas but did live in Rochester, New York for 50 years of my life. You can write me on judygen43@gmail.com. It has been a while since I worked on my Steger line but only because I seem to have hit a brick wall. Sorry I did not see your query sooner.

It wasn't worth much, but they owned it!

Just how primitive was the home where my great-great-grandparents, John and Ann Norton, lived in with their six children?

Line 35 on the image linked from this page:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K6QM-T95

Comparing the relative values of the homes, multiplying by 2,000, it's as if theirs had been worth $20,000 (as would be a few others), with others on the same page worth $100,000, $200,000 and $500,000. (The cheapest on the "block" would be $12,000.)

Church records do exist back that far, but it depends on the denomination. Henrietta does exist as a town in Monroe County. MC was created in 1821. Your best bet might be to contact the Henrietta Historian. She is great, and her name is Tina Thompson, 475 Calkins Road, Henrietta, NY 14467, (585) 359-7042, historian@henrietta.org

If the family moved away to another area, there MIGHT be land records in the co clerks office. But that early, church records are about it.

He is not listed in the wills and intestate lists that the Rochester Library has online; he died before the 1850 census and so is not there. To the best of my knowledge the RDD for the dates you are interested in are only available on film and are not online anywhere; those films can be ordredd on loan from the NY State library in Albany by your local library, to read them at you location.

I did not see any likely Chaffee's in the online newspaper index at the Rochester Library. Most likely any information would be found in church records (http://rmc.library.cornell.edu/eguides/lists/churchlist1.htm...), or in land records (which I am told are online and searchable but only inside the county clerk's office (deep sigh). Same deal with any possible court records. Have you tried the local historians? [http://mcnygenealogy.com/historians.htm].

Family of Fannie Ward

Hi I have been researching my Great Grandmother Fannie Ward from Drumamuck Cavan. Her father name = Peter Ward. I have discovered her siblings all emigrated to US around 1895-1915) and some settled in Rochester Monroe. Siblings = Peter Ward, John C Ward and Margaret (married name McGovern). Fannie travelled to US with her sister Margaret and her husband in 1915 and then returned to Cavan - she unfortunately died young of consumption. My grandmother Fannie's daughter Catherine Anne Reburn (married name McCaffrey)was in contact with her uncles in US up until approx 1960. I have an address in 1949 for John C Ward 166 Oneida Street Rochester #21-NY. Could anyone assist in finding out more information. Many thanks

Augusta was born Dec 20, 1873 supposedly in Essen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Essen is northeast of Dusseldorf about 50 miles in the west part of West Germany. As you can see from the post from her marriage license, Adolph Klem and Katherine Miller are her parents. According to that 1920 Census, she immigrated in 1886 at age 13 and was naturalized in 1898.

It is unclear whether she came with her parents as I have backtracked the other Klems prior to 1900 of Rochester, NY and find no connections. My hunch is she came to visit and live with distant relatives of the Klem line.

Augusta died on May 21, 1969 and is likely buried in Rochester. Will do more research on that aspect.

Because Augusta immigrated 6 years prior to Ellis Island records, standard shipping/immigration records need to be check to see if further light can be shed on Augusta.

Since she was naturalized in 1898 upon.... likely upon her May 15, 1898 Marriage to Arthur Ed Stallman (middle name often shown by other researchers as "George" since there was an Arthur George Stallman in Rochester. Understand that a G and E in old script look similar so error by other researchers are common.)

For further confirmation, located the Rochester, Monroe County, NY naturalization records. They are likely kept locally because it was not until 1902 until all naturalization papers were forwarded to the Federal Court system. Thus, ask local Monroe County, NY historians for records on naturalizations + or - 1 year from 1898.

The naturalization records often indicate parents and the town of nativity for parents and the child Augusta.

Understand that the Arthur George Stallman, referred to above, is not the same as Arthur George Stallman born 1898 and the son of Arthur E. Stallman.

I presume you know the kids of Arthur & Augusta as:
Arthur George, Leslie Klem, Florence Augusta, and Custer Stallman?

Hi Doug. Sorry it took so long.

My Augusta (Klem) was born in Germany about 1872. She immigrated 1888. Lived and married in Rochester, NY.

Listed with husband Arthur E. Stallman Ward 19, Monroe Co., NY Census 1910. Children listed.

Listed in 1920 same Ward, County and State. Page 3.

Listed in Rochester phone Book until 1944. I lost track of her. Probably living with daughter.

I met her about 1965 in Rochester. She had aged and converted back to German.

Would like to know who her parents were and where she was from. Cannot find where she is buried or when.

Thanks.
A. Stallman
Bobmanet@aol.com

I checked the suburban directory for Pittsford NY (which is where 3500 East Ave. actually is). It is a restaurant and has been at least since 1930. So someone dying there isn't correct. There is the Rochester Friendly Home at 3156 East Ave which is a type of nursing home. The Rochester Library Life Records page has an index entry: CLARK, MARY O'CONNELL. died	7/13/1970 notice in	TU 7/14/1970. Wills are at the County Surrogate Court, but there is a proviso: from [http://mcnygenealogy.com/resource.htm]
Research rates: By mail - $90 per search and 25¢ per copy. In person - search for free and paper copies are 25 cents (film copies $1).

The LDS Family History Library has filmed the index to all Surrogate Court records through 1970 and they also filmed the wills from 1821 - 1901 but they did not film the entire file. Search for available records at the Family Search website.

Have you determined if the couple lived in Rochester or elsewhere?

I don't know what year it was but, several streets, East being one, were renumbered. This is not uncommon in cities. You might want to check the city directories in the front for such information.

Hello Listers;
I am looking for a date & place of death for Andrew Harkin f/o Neil & Martin Harkin of Sunnidale & Ann/Annie Harkin O'Malley who lived in Nottawasaga & at Rochester, NY. The 1860 US census has Andrew living with Ann & her family but by 1870 Ann is back in Canada (1871 census Nattawasaga)appears as Omelia, also Amelia)but Andrew is no longer with her. I am trying to establish when & where Andrew died. He was born in Ireland about 1785 & came with his family to Canada in the spring of 1847 (wife Bridget Madden died during passage & several sons died at Gross Isle). I have not found a record of him at St. Pat's RC cemetery, Stayner where other family are buried. Any suggestions are appreciated.

She was buried 24 April 1926. I am also curious to know if others are buried with her, so I sent an inquiry to the "Friends of Mt Hope Cemetery" and await their reply. (SG in the plot number may indicate that this is a "single grave.")

Catherine (Kate) was married to Alexander Brown Young, who possibly died in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Thanks.
I met with some of the family today and they don't know
but think it was just one of those large sailing ships
like the tall ships.

do you know if Bill Klem the famous umpire born in 1876 is
related to this family. I can't find his parent.

I have the picture of Joseph and will send it. Jan

In 1900 Frederick seems to be married to an Anna, with the same children. She was born in Jan 1864 in Germany and it reads that she came to the US in 1884. At that time they live in Brighton, just immediately south of Rochester. That marriage appears in the Historic Rochester Marriages:

http://www.cityofrochester.gov/app.aspx?id=8589943531

SELECTED MARRIAGE RECORD DETAILS
ID	9487
Page Number	301
Date of Marriage	04/05/1888
HusbFirst	FREDR
HusbMiddle
HusbLast	SCHUTT
City	ROCHESTER
State	NY
HAGE	29
Husband Color	W
Husband Occupation	LABORER
Husband Birthplace	MECKLBG SCHW
HusbBirthState	NY
Husband father FN	FREDR
Husband father MN
Husband father LN
Husband mother FN	MARIA
Husband mother MN
Husband mother LN	ARFT **(stars added by me to highlight)
Husband number of marriages	1
Wife last lame	SCHROEDER
Wife middle initial	M
Wife first lame	ANNA
Residence City	ROCHESTER
Residence State	-
Wife Age	24
Wife color	W
Wife birthplace	MCKLENBG
WifeBirthState	-
Wife father FN	HEINRICH
Wife father MN
Wife father LN
Wife Mother FN	MARIA
Wife Mother middle name
Wife Mother maiden name	EMBLER
Wife number of marriages	1
Marriage Official	ALBERT ZELLER
Official Position	PASTOR EV ST PA
WhereRecorded
RollNumber	1
Year of marriage	1888

so the Arfts in ths case seem to have been from Mecklenburg.
It would appear that she was moved from Brockport after 8th grade, I am slowly searching yearbooks from the various Monroe county schools ( using the ones posted to classmates.com). I have run exhaustive searches on the Fulton Postcards website ( which is fantastic) , it was the place where I found the names and birth dates of all the siblings - so very helpful. But ... I wish I could find a marriage notice - what a lead and break thru that would be.
Thank you all so much for all the suggestions and help ..... still chugging along looking under every stone! Next stop is a letter to the dept of Health and Human services in Monroe county asking for help!

Thanks, Jan

This is so exciting. If we pool all we have we should be able to complete the data for future generations.

Yes, Joseph was Bernard Andrew's brother born October 29th, 1840.

Jim Hall went to Germany and met with Max Klemm. Max has since died, and so has Jim. We owe it to them to "carry on." They did a lot of research. I, also, met with Max Klemm before he died but Jim got more information from him than I did.

Annie Bowie
It is a small display. We should be able to find the ship on Ancestry... I notice the spelling is sometimes
Johann Baptist Klem. I have to call the lady who is keeper
of the history and will talk with her. Interesting, a reporter called today and he wants to do a story on the Klem family.............for the D/C and has to have his
story in by Wednesday. He is meeting us on Monday around 12.
I was looking at the genealogy that Jim Hall did and I did notice Consler in there. I will take a photo of Joseph Klem. I think however, he is the brother of Bernard.. I think they both settled in Webster at the same time. Jan
