I have been researching my ancestors for years and have been having difficulty finding definitive evidence for connections between and among the father/grandfather of my 4th great-grandfather. I would be so appreciative if someone can help me.

Here's what I know:

My 4th great-grandfather Hosea (or Hozea) Brown was born April 7 1798 in Brookfield, Madison County, NY and was married to Hannah Babcock, who was born April 23 1798 in Stonington, New London County, CT.

I know, from various reliable sources, that Hosea's father's name was Luther Brown. I have found contradictory information on where Luther was born (either Brookfield, NY or Stonington, CT) but I am fairly certain that Luther Brown was born in Stonington, CT ca. 1770 and emigrated to Brookfield, NY around the time that Hosea was born.

Through a lot of research, I have discovered that a group of Browns from Stonington, CT moved to Brookfield, NY around the late 1790s (e.g., 1798, 1799). The Brown group that keeps popping up for me are the offspring of Eleazer Brown III (b. June 1 1728 Stonington, CT; d. July 11 1795 Stonington, CT). In particular, I have found a solid reference to three of Eleazer III's sons pioneering their way to Brookfield around the end of the 1790s, namely Eleazer Brown IV (b. July 4 1757 Stonington d. 1847 Brookfield), Benjamin Brown (b. February 20 1765 Stonington, d. April 12 1832 Edmeston, Ostego County, NY) and Luther Brown (b. April 11 1766 Stonington, d. abt 1851 Brookfield).

From the prior findings, I have zeroed in on this Luther, born 1766, as the most likely Luther as the father of Hosea (born 1798). This is bolstered somewhat by the fact that this Luther is found in the "Brown Genealogy" book (pub 1907) but is listed with only "Unknown" sons and daughters. I figure that Hosea is one of the "Unknowns".

The only other candidate as the father of Hosea that I've found is the son of Eleazer Brown IV (mentioned above), who had a son named Luther who was born on November 14, 1787 in Brookfield and was married to a Hannah Church, who was born August 2, 1791. As you could probably deduce, this would present problems as Hannah would need to have birthed Hosea around age 7! Not to mention the fact that this Luther is also found in the "Brown Genealogy" book BUT all of his offspring are listed in great detail (starting to be born around 1811) and there is no Hosea among them.

With all that in mind, I would really love it if anyone can help shed some insight on any Luther Browns who were in or around Stonington, CT or Brookfield, NY around the times of the 1770s through to around 1800.

Thanks in advance for the help! I've attached a few germane sources in case it helps.
