Searching for information on the parents and family of Ellsworth Hamilton Jamieson born Sept 7, 1882 in Brooklyn. Not much is know about parents because he was orphaned at an early age (12) and never talked about his parents or siblings when he was an adult.

Possible that father was a sea captain. Ellsworth and siblings (possibly a sister) were left with an Aunt Jane, but don't know if she was maternal or paternal aunt. He ran away when she was going to put the kids in an orphange.

Would like to connect with other's who have Jamieson family in Brooklyn at this time for help or just some general tips on how to search. His birth certificate, according to NY, was lost in fire. Are there any birth indexes or compiled vital records for this time frame?
