Mrs. Jane Houghton, Evans Mills, Dies at 66
Evans Mills -- Mrs. Jane Houghton, 66, Pearl Street, died Monday afternoon in Mercy Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past two years.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Frederick Brothers Funeral Home, Evans Mills, with Rev. Catherine Salisbury, pastor of the Mannsville and Lorraine United Methodist churches, officiating. Burial will be in Evans Mills Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held an hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Evans Mills Ambulatory Rescue Squad.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Houghton; a son, Jerry, Gouverneur; two grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Pickette, Florida, and Mrs. Katie Staub, Rochester; two brothers, James Jerome, Sackets Harbor, her twin, and Ralph Jerome, North Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Mrs. Mary Hall, and a brother, Clarence Jerome, died previously.
Born 12 April 1920 in Watertown, a daughter of the late Edward and Nina Horne Jerome, she attended Brownville-Glen Park high school and was employed by the Jefferson County Sanitorium before her marriage.
She married James E. Houghton 3 Aug 1943. The couple had lived in Evans Mills since their marriage.
