I have hit a brick wall in my research and am hoping for some help.
I am researching the Thornton family of Schenectady, NY. Father Alvin, Mother Mary. Every census record I've looked at (both Federal and State) states that their daughter, Julia, was born in Ohio in 1854. This always seemed odd because in 1850 they were in Schenectady, had a son there in 1852, and then show up in the 1855 census in Schenectady with another child, Julia, "born in Ohio".
Then I had a thought that maybe they meant Ohio, NY and not the State of Ohio (yes, I'm grasping at straws here), but I'm having a hard time determining what records might be available to help me since the census cannot.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
