I am trying to find more info on my GG grandmother who was born on the St. Regis reservation about 1837. I have seen her surname a number of ways so bear with me. She was Margaret LaMay (Lamee, Lahmie, LeMay) and married Carlos Broadwell who was living in Fort Covington as the son of a fisherman about 1858. The names and approx dates were taken from vital records of their children, as well as a one line mention in a published Broadwell genealogy. Any helpful advice is much appreciated.

Charles George Gappell AKA "Sarge Cole"

I am searching for the final whereabouts of my great uncle Charles G. Gappell, from Malone, NY who went by the alias of "Sarge Cole". He was born in 1896 and in the mid 1920s-1930s, he drove long distance automobiles, often handcuffed to the steering wheel, to demonstrate the endurance of the particular auto brand. He also claims to have been in Hollywood as a stuntman, and as a trainer. He was a lifeguard in Rockaway Beach, Long Island, NY around 1920 or so. I have him in newspaper articles until the early 1930s and then can not find him anywhere after that. He must've settled somewhere, had neighbors, some sort of income, been buried by someone in some town?! He does not show up on the 1930 or 1940 census that I can find as he travelled around alot and gave his mother's address in Malone as a permanent address. In her obituary in 1935, it lists him as living in South Carolina but I haven't found anything with that info. I don't know if he continued to go by Sarge Cole or ever went back to his given birth name. He even fathered a child in Ohio and the hospital has him as Sarge Cole! If you've ever come across an old newspaper article, found belongings in an old attic or garage sale, or know of this individual (he may have married again, tho' he left 2 previous wives "abandoned"!), please contact me...he's one of my mystery ancestors! Thank you, LLaPage

Moses Richards Family

I am a descendant of Moses Richards Sr and Moses Richards Jr from Dickinson, NY. They owned farmland on the Nicholville Rd.

I am first looking for information on Moses Richards Jr and his wife Alice. Moses being born in 1870 in Canada, came to the US in 1872. I have a few newspaper articles concerning barn fire in 1899, selling the farm in 1907 (not sure if this is Sr or Jr's farm) and the vacant home being burglarized in 1916.
What I am looking for is what happened between 1910 and 1915 and beyond, along with any information on Alice. My Great Grandfather, William Dorey, was born in 1913 and adopted around 1915. I have the family in the 1910 census, then Moses on a 1920 census in Boston without his wife or any children. Moses is back in Malone, Franklin County on the 1940 census as an inmate at the Franklin County Welfare home on the South Bangor Rd. This is where I lose him. I have his death prior to 1948, but not sure when. I lose Alice as of the 1910 census and do not have a maiden name for her.

My Great Grandfather is 1 of 7 children. I know at least 2 that were adopted out. He stayed in the area and was adotped by Joseph and Eva Burnett Dora. Delia Richards was sent out on an adoption train to MO, kept her last name. Francis Richards ended up in Syracuse after being placed on a farm in St. Regis Falls. Charles Richards died in Wolcott, NY. Joseph (b.1903), Clifford (b. 1906) and John (North Lawrence, NY, b. 1914) I have no further information on. If they were adopted their last names may have changed. William, Francis, John, and Delia were able to find each other and connect over the years.

The first thing on the page was a marriage for a Gertrude Jeanette Morin to a Cecil Jocelyn Eden in Summit County Ohio.
I found them here in the 1930 census, but then lose track of Gertrude.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X7SP-Z8X
In 1940, Cecil is listed as married with children Cecil and Elizabeth (must be the Marie from 1930), but no sign of Gertrude.
http://interactive.ancestry.com/2442/m-t0627-01876-00038/797...

Elizabeth married Joseph Berger, not Justen. I wanted to know the name so that I could see any clues in the 1920 census. Also, Gertrude was listed in the census as Gertrude Berger, so she could have continued to use that name, or Morin.
There are a couple methods I use to find a woman when I don't know if they married. One is to search the social security death index by birthdate and first name. Unfortunately, I found some of her siblings birthdates at familysearch, but not Gertrudes.
The other way is to look for obits for her siblings, that may mention her. I have looked in some newspapers, but not had any luck yet. You might put a query on the Hillsborough county board, to ask if someone will look for an obit for Wilbert Morin, who died in April 1984 - sorry I cannot find an exact date. You also might consider putting obit requests for Joseph and Elizabeth Berger in Franklin County, Ohio, as they may mention where Gertrude was in that year. Joseph's death date was May 10, 1926 in Florida, and Elizabeth died November 2, 1926 in Ohio.

That is correct. She died six months before Joseph and her family took her up to be buried with her first husband, Alfred Morin. They had many children of their own. Joseph had Euremia and was taken care of by his son in Tampa until he died. He was then taken back to Ohio to be buried by his first wife.

Fascinating story! Wish it were my Prossers!

My GreatGrandfather Joseph Prosser also came from Wales; guesses are Monmouthshire or vicinity... I haven't been able to find when he came to the US (although he was in Pennsylvania in 1860) so I can't make the connection to his family of origin.

Joseph Prosser was born about 1829, emigrated to Pennsylvania, evidently living first in the Minersville area, moving to Scranton, then to Ohio, where both he and his wife Mary Ann (Morgan) Prosser died. They left at least 3 children, William Byron (my grandfather), Joseph Burns Prosser, and a latecomer, Cordelia. The three children were sent to the Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphanage in Philadelphia. There may have been another daughter, or Cordelia may have also been listed as Mary at one time.

She was from Franklin Co., Ohio until her mother married and moved her and Wilbert to Florida. Mother died in 1926 and taken back to Lockbourn, Ohio to be buried with first husband, Alfred.
Re: Gertrude Fisher Alexander

Not to beat a dead horse, but I still think there's some confusion as to who's the father of Clarence/George. According to this Mass. marriage record, Gertrude wed my Clifford Alexander on 15 Dec 1908. Clarence/George was born a little less than 7 months later, so unless he was premature, he was conceived out of wedlock. (Again, I find it hard to believe that the Clifton Alexander of VT/NH/ME could be the father of Clarence/George, when Gertrude and her family were in Springfield, MA, in 1908, the town in which my Clifford Alexander lived in 1908, and where the marriage took place. I found no evidence of Clifton Alexander in MA or NY).

Mass Marriage Record
groom's name: Clifford A Alexander
groom's birth date: 1884 [actually born 1881]
groom's age: 24 [27]
bride's name: Gertrude M Fisher
bride's birth date: 1892
bride's age: 16
marriage date: 15 Dec 1908
marriage place: Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts
groom's father's name: Philip B
groom's mother's name: Nellie M Clark
bride's father's name: Francis W
bride's mother's name: Matilda Barber

Perhaps Gertrude and Clifford had a rough beginning to their marriage (she was only 16 when they wed) and were separated at the time of the 1910 census, but got back together. The 1912 newspaper birth announcement of a girl (presumably Eathol) being born to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Alexander implies that they were still married.

My Clifford Alexander was listed in MA city directories up until his marriage to Gertrude, but then is not listed in MA again until 1916, which makes me think that he was in NY during those 7 years or so (I know Clifford and Gertrude divorced because Clifford remarried by 1918).

If it turns out that my Clifford Alexander is not the father of Clarence/George, Eathol, and/or Maurice, then I am not related to them. I am related to Nellie (Hosford) Clark, Clifford Alexander's mother (Nellie is part of my maternal grandfather's line). And yes, I did see the picture of your grandfather, and believe it or not, he resembles MY maternal grandfather.

I was also trying to find where Gertrude was buried. Her mother Matilda's obit said she was a member of the M. E. Church and was to be buried in Constable. A check on Google showed a United Methodist church in Constable, which does have a cemetery. I sent them an email but did not receive a reply--I guess a phone call is necessary (I thought perhaps Gerdrude would be buried with her family).

You're welcome. My Debar line was originally spelled Tiebert (French and the "t" on the end is silent). I think the spelling was changed because it sounded like Debar. John Henry Debar was French Canadian and an explorer. There is a pond and a mountain named after him (in the Adirondacks).
If you put Debar Mountain or Debar Pond into a search engine you can find info on him.

Thank you for clarifying that! I'm still trying to find a possible connection of a pocket of DeBarrs in West Virginia, to the greater DeBar/DeBarr community. Our line has been searching and searchfor years for the father of William DeBarr, born around 1793 who married a Nancy Reed and had several children.

No. Sorry I was not clear on that. The entire list is the children of John Henry Debar & Margaret Lewin. I just happened to mention Rosalia had 13 children but did not list them. The ones under her are more siblings of hers. I can see why you would think that.

L.
