I think I read on some site that the Erie County Home and Infirmary where my Great-Aunt worked for years in the 1940's & 50's is in the process of being shut down. Just now tried the phone number given and the recording states the number is no longer in service. If anyone knows otherwise please get in touch with me.

Regards,

SueDee47

Does the Erie County Home have records of 1881. If I recall correctly Augusta Bader died there February 1881. May have found that surfing FultonHistory I sent a handwritten letter to the ECH with relevant info and my return address about a year ago. I asked them if there were any fees. Never got a reply.
Zona

Hi - If you have the source in Hesse- Darmstadt for Jacob's birth in 1808, we can compare sources and I can tell you if you have the right Lang.

It's a very common name in Buffalo , NY .

p.s. Of the three brothers of Jacob Lang , none had a son named Peter. There is a Lang genealogy published with sources on Scribd.

Quite late in my response but the Gerhard Lang you mentioned descend from the Frank Lang & Catherine Zimmerman line of Lang in Buffalo . Frank had many male children and many descandants . He is the brother of Gerhard and he did not go into the Brewery business with Gerhard .

Someone from that line did a marvelous genealogy of the Frank Lang family .

Kimmy, the Lang book has Roadhouse family. The step-son, Gerhard Lang, is descended from Joseph Anton Lang family that lived on Broadway in Buffalo. Joseph Anton Lang family had a meat market. He was the brother of the brewer, Gerhard Lang. Gerhard Lang did not have male heirs who passed the name down today. There were many nephews, as you stated, named after the famous, political political brewer.

My grandmother was Muriel Restall Schmitt.

I recall hearing the stories of Aunt Dickie and Grandma speaking of the sermons in "German". I never made the connection until recently when I came on Ancestry trying to research the Restall/Schmitt family. It's amazing the lineage and history on this side of my family. I always knew my Irish roots on the Whelan side but to find out this information is simply awesome and has really driven me to find more.

My mother said she remembers seeing pictures of him that Aunt Dickie had. She is going to be going through her photos and see if she has any of John Henry.

Wende Correctional Facility(716) 937-40003040 Wende Rd, Alden, NY This is a Max House. Today it now called the Buffalo Correctional Facility same address. I suggest to start there for direction but most likely you will need to write to the State Seat in Albany, NY for this type of information. NOTE: if you are not a directe family member you will never see those records. All inmate records are sealed after their death in prison or after discharge. Good luck.

Looking for an Obituary for a Nancy (possibly listed as Anna or Annie) Artise (Nee Barone).
The Artise family lived in North East, Pa. Based on her birth year she would have had to pass before 1985. Nancy was married to a Benjamin Cerrie who passed between 1908 and 1910 and her second marriage was to a Frances (Francesco) Artise who passed in June 1969 in North East. Would like his obituary as well. I’ve checked online collections but have been unable to locate either.
According to the index of marriages at county hall, the marriage record that you are seeking was listed on page 44 of volume 9. Unfortunately, volume 9 cannot be located.

If it's any consolation, these old J.P. marriage records were very sparse, generally including only the names and ages of the groom and bride and the date of marriage. Occasionally they included a place of residence if it was outside of Buffalo. I have never seen one that contained the names of the parents.
With regret,
Glenn Atwell

Marriage record of John G Miller and Christine Febrey, 1863?

Is there anywhere I might find a record of the marriage of John G MILLER and Christine FEBREY on Nov 7, 1863? Marriage was performed by a Justice of the Peace in Buffalo, NY.

This information is from the Civil War records of John G Miller who was in Buffalo to be inducted into the 2nd NY Mounted Rifles as a bugler.

I have a life time of information about John G, but Christine's background is a mystery. She may have been from York Co., PA...or Baltimore, MD... or where?

I am hoping a marriage record (if there is one) may give some information.

Many thanks for any help.

Helen

In a word yes providing you have the right software. Click on where it says Imprimer (meaning print) at the top of the screen and set up the page as if you were going to print it. Click on where it says Valider in the lower right corner and you should get a Print dialogue box. Rather than send it to a printer send it to a software that will save it as an image. I use Adobe Acrobat. I would imagine there are others out there that will do much the same thing. Once it is in Adobe you can save it as several other formats rather easily.

Of course this is how things work on my computer. Yours may work differently.

I forgot to mention that the Batterson family cemetary is also on that site. I just visited it 2 days ago. It is rather forgotten and abandoned. However the family gravestones are still visible with 2 memorial plaques : one for Abijah, one for his wife Anna, one for his granddaughter Martha and his daughter in law: Nellie. The cemetary is located on someone's private land. It is 3 miles east of Wellsburg ( or Wellsboro) I forget the exact name of the town. Abijah came there after the Sullivan campaign destroyed the Native American villages on the Susequahanna River. He must have recieved the land as payment for his participation in the Revolutionary War. He came from near Fairfield Conn. One of many sons. He is a descendant of Anthony Batterson who emigrated from England via Scotland. Anthony had a son James. James had a son James the 2nd and then there was Abijah.

My grandfather was the youngest surviving child. His name was George Wilder Batterson and he formed and was the first coach of the Buffalo Bison that developed into the Buffalo Bills. The family ( Batterson ) homestead and graveyard is located in the southern tier, Chemung county near Wellsboro NY. Abijah Batterson, revolutionary war soldier settled there with his wife Anna in 1787 or so. The chimney and foundation is still there.Thomas Batterson is a descendant of David Batterson whose father was Abijah. My brother is George Wilder Batterson the 3.I am Sara Ellen Batterson Costanza

Clifford was the son of Charles W Pease and Anna Foley. My impression is that Charles and Anna were divorced but I'm not sure. Anna married David Huyler Roberts 9 Jan 1890 in Bridgeport. Both of her children - Clifford and Katherine - used the surname Roberts, but I don't know whether there was a formal adoption or not. David was my ggrandfather's brother. He died in 1897 after having a nervous breakdown. He and Anna had no children of their own. Clifford was a lawyer in NYC.

Alexander Zanfretta was married to Annetta Galli in 1860. I'm sure this is right because one of the witnesses was a Seigrist (Alexander's sister Marietta was married to a Seigrist). I don't know what happened to Annetta. Josie DuPre presents herself as Alexander's wife at least as early as Dec 1868 when they arrive in Cuba just before son Leo was born. I haven't found a marriage record, nor do I know what happened to Josie. Alexander married Emma Veldran in 1878. She left him for Andrew Anderson; I don't know which of them got the divorce. My email is paniswin@frii.com. I'd like to compare notes on Alexander's siblings, too.

The only one sure method to find out info of an old company is to start at the court house starting with the clerks office. If this was in the years of the 1900's to about 1950 most likely you will need to do the footwork. Oh for GP it is Jefferson Avenue.
