Brick Wall - Great Grandfather was adopted

I have been researching my family for a number of years now. We found out that my Great Grandfather was adopted after his father died in Buffalo, NY. when he was 2 years old. His mother . . . My Great Grandmother remarried a few years later and in 1881 his Stepfather (WENZL MEDLIN) adopted him. (We actually have the adoption papers). I have researched and searched and searched and am trying to find out where he came from. His Surname was BEUGE . . . and we believe the family was from Mecklinburg, Germany. I was able to find a Gustave and Sophie BEUGE who we think were his parents but unsure. I'm positive they are related but have no proof they were his parents. I have no record of immigration, no death record or marriage record . . . no way to trace back where my family originated. My surname of MEDLIN is an adopted name and not biological and would really like to find out the origin of my Great Great Grandfather.

I received a DNA Report and thought this would help but its like trying to find a needle in the haystack. I have found nobody connected to this lineage. (Not yet at least) and am at wits end on how to proceed.

I would welcome any suggestions on how to proceed thru this mountain of data on and how to come to a conclusion on the origin of my Fathers biological Genealogy.
