I’m looking for additional information regarding Nicholas
Reynolds and Mary
Wright of
Addison County,
Vermont, particularly the parents of Nicholas
Reynolds.
This
Reynolds family seems to share similarities to the family of Griffin
Reynolds and Martha Gardner in their path from
Vermont, to
Genesee County New York, to
Erie County New York, and to
Whiteside County Illinois. I’m wondering if Nicholas might be related to that branch somehow, maybe an undocumented brother or cousin of Griffin. Nicholas was born in 1777, during all sorts of pillaging in
Vermont, so maybe family records relating the two were destroyed.
Any information or guesses would be appreciated.
Here are my Reynolds:
1. Nicholas
Reynolds, millwright. Born April 12, 1777 in
Vermont. (This is *not* the Nicholas
Reynolds born in West Rutland,
Vermont, son of Jonathan
Reynolds.) He appears on
Addison County,
Vermont census in 1800. Nicholas
Reynolds and Mary
Wright were married December 31, 1801 in
Vermont. Living in St.
Lawrence County,
New York 1805-1811. Son Almos born in Madrid, NY in 1808. Nicholas family appears in Potsdam, NY in 1810. Involved in St.
Lawrence County militia through 1811, rising to rank of captain. In 1811 moves to Riga,
Genesee County, New York; living there on 1820 Census. By 1830 had moved eastwards to
Erie County, NY. Living in
Aurora in 1830 and
Wales in 1840 and 1850. (After 1850 might have briefly moved to
Whiteside County,
Illinois with children, and then returned after wife’s death in 1855.) Died August 24, 1857 in
Wales,
Erie County,
New York.
2. Mary
Wright. Born December 24, 1783 in Weybridge,
Addison County,
Vermont. (Her children claimed to be first cousins of NY governor Silas
Wright, but I’m dubious how that works.) Her parents were Ebenezer
Wright and Rebecca Stannard of Berkshire County, Massachusetts who came to Weybridge in 1783. (He was *not* the same Loyalist Ebenezer
Wright of Shaftsbury,
Vermont whose lands were confiscated in 1778 and who went to Quebec along with a few
Reynolds.) Mary died 1855 in
Hopkins Township,
Whiteside County,
Illinois.
