Do you have access to the census records,etc. on Ancestry.com? On the 1920 census in Poughkeepsie Donald Kimlin, 4, is with parents Robert J. & Sarah. Robert J. is age 40. Robert J. Kimlin, 20, is on the 1900 census in Poughkeepsie with father James Kimlin, 52, who is a widowed carpenter. In 1880, James Kimlin, 33, a carpenter, is in Poughkeepsie with his family which includes 7 month old Robert James. This family is indexed as K...Lin for some reason. On the actual page the name looks like Kimlin to me. On the 1850 census in Poughkeepsie the only James Kimlin is a 4 yr. old in the household of Robert Kimlin, age 20, b. Ireland who is next door to the William & Mary Kimlin family. William is age 42, b. Ireland.

The name Kimlin is not common. I think all the Kimlins in Dutchess co. are probably related. This database at Rootsweb does not mention Robert Kimlin but does have William & Mary Kimlin. You might want to contact the submitter.
