I'm trying to find the parents of my 3rd great grandmother, Sally Sutherland (1760-1842). Her grandson (my great grandfather) John Root, claimed one of his great-great grandmothers was a full-blooded Mohawk. Six of those possible g2 grandmothers remain unidentifed, four through his mother, Lydia Conro, and two through his grandmother Sally (likely real name of Sarah).

Since almost all of the New England Sutherlands trace from William Sutherland and Hannah Avery, I suspect my Sarah does too. Joseph Sutherland married a Sarah just 5-years before my Sally was born. I suspect, but cannot prove, that Joseph and Sarah are Sally's parents, and that Sarah's mother is my missing Mohawk. Does anyone have any family history on Joseph? Where born? Sarah's last name?
