I am looking for suggestions as to where I may look for information about my 4th Great Grandfather, William Barber, who was in Columbia Co, NY, between at least 1810 to 1817 and probably moved to Carlisle, Schoharie Co, NY about 1820 from here. He & his family were in the 1810 census for Claverack. In 1815 - 1817 his son John, my 3d ggrandfather, was in a court case in Hudson, for not joining the NY Militia. In these proceedings, his father, William, says the he is from Claverack. I am just not having much success on my own finding records. Were there other families from Columbia Co, that moved to Schoharie Co?
