I was wondering if you have any Bourdeau's in your family tree, I'm trying to look for Arsene(sam) who's father was either Olivier Bourdeau and mother Flavie Labelle, or a Joeseph Bourdeau and mother Cathrine Poupart.

Frances Papin/Francoise Fosher of Coopersville

Hello Everyone,

I started researching my family tree two years ago. In that time I've had ups and downs but Francoise has always been a major block. I started searching starting with the present and working my way back. I guess that makes a lot of sense in describing the search.

My ancestor is Pierre Latour dit Forget. He went by Peter Forget when he was in Rhode Island. He came from Coopersville, New York. His parents were Venance Latour dit Forget and Francoise. I do not know Francoise's surname and it's a huge mystery. She and her husband are buried in the St Joseph's Cemetery in Coopersville. Their tombstone reads "Francis Papin" died June 13, 1907 ae 93 years. Venance is "Vanice Forsher" but their descendants in the area go by Fosher. I have only found a one line obituary for her. "Died, June 13, at the home of her son, Epharim Forgays, Mrs Frances Forgays, aged 93 years."

I do not know if Francis was 93 years old. They married in Lavaltrie on July 17, 1838 and her name was "Francoise illigitime" on the church record. The 1900 US Census says she was born in October 1818 Canada (Fr).

Epharim Forgays was Ephraim Fosher Sr.

Looking at the baptismal records of their children, Francoise is listed as "Syrar" or Cirard on some records and Papin or Pepin on others. Venance's brother Jean Baptiste Latour dit Forget married a Marie Syrard on Oct 23, 1827 at L'Assomption in Canada. It is a possibility they are tied but that's just a stretch without any evidence.

Any information about her prior to her marriage or a full obituary would be greatly appreciated.

She's not in the household with the parents in the 1880 Census.

The Amelia I mentioned in my post above (daughter of Olivier Jennet and Flavie Rivard) IS still in the household with her parents in 1880.

They married in 1881 and I do have a 1900 census for her. She's listed a living in Chazy with John and ten of their children. I know I've seen various years of birth for her.

According to her obit in November 1944 it says she had just passed her 90th birthday and she was born Nov 8, so that would make her year of birth 1854. Her headstone says 1856 and the 1900 census says 1855.

Do you know about when the marriage occurred?

There are several Janot/Jeanotte/Jennette/Gennett (and more variations) lines in Clinton. I have sorted some. I have (2)
Amelia's born in the time frame of yours, one was the daughter of Olivier "Levi" Janot (b abt 1821, Quebec, Canada) and Flavie Rivard (b abt 1818). I mention this because "Flavie" and "Phoebe" can sound alike.

Do you have the 1900 Census for her?

I have Amelia as born Mar 1854 and she died November 10, 1944. She would have been in northern Clinton County, most likely Chazy or Champlain. Thank you in advance.

Janice, I just found your message and checked out that link. I'll make an appt. with that librarian on Monday. Sorry to be so non-reactivel I guess I'm not too adept at using message boards. That was so nice of you to send that information. Right now I'm trying to see if I can get to the Book of Judgments in the Poughkeepsie Courthouse to find a divorce decree for my grandmother Louise Stone and her first husband, George H. Stone. There is such a good story there. Barbara Rea has done such research and has filled out lots of blank spaces for me. I feel like my grandmother isn;t so lost now, even though we haven't found her maiden name. Right now it's my grandfather who is lost. He went to NYC to look for a job in 1915, wrote one post card to his wife and dropped off the face of the earth. I need to know if he came back and got a divorce. Thanks for writing.

Northern NY Library Network Historical Newspaper is a great resource.

I'm looking for a complete, or near complete, list of the children of Ezra Turner b.1765 and his wife Amy Beman b. 1772.

Ezra is easy to find in the census lists and in newspaper article such as the one transcribed in this thread. I can confirm that they had at least two children - Mary Turner b.1798 (married Abel Turner) and Isaac Turner b. 1801. Mary Turner and Abel Turner went on to have about 11 children.

By 1850, according to the census of Schuyler Falls, the elderly Ezra Turner and Amy Turner née Beman are living in the household of John Turner b.1820.

I assume that John is the grandson of Ezra and Amy Turner.

Who was John's father? Mother?

What other children did Ezra and Amy have?

Such a famous couple (Ezra and Amy) and I can't find a death notice or obit? And newspapers recount their history but don't provide a list of their children?

Any resources or documents that you can recommend?

My grandmother just called her mother Viola. She was born in 1879 and is reported that she died in 1909 when my grandmother was 9. Any information on the circumstances of her death or where she was buried, would be appreciated.

Harmon and Vitalin Landry are my great, great grandparents, and they did have a daughter name Catherine that was born on October 6, 1857 in Coopersville NY.
It has a lot of Drouin overlap stuff, but unlike getting stuff from the PRDH, it goes beyond 1800, which is helpful here.

I didn't find anything in my first poke. I had a "Andre Gilbert Linsey" as an outside shot, but it looks like those folks are "Lindsays" or similar, and didn't find any Clement or Clemence.

I'm returning to troll through the Baptism records for St Edourd de Napierville in hopes of finding something there. It seems like the Raymonds and the Fortin/Martin/Martier/Marteaus were there in the 1820s-1840s. Maybe Gilbert Jesse was bapstised there but sloppy handwriting or bad indexing may have overlooked him.

Do you have access to the La France database from the Genealogie Quebec web site?

If so, have you checked for records there -- a lot of overlap with Drouin, but I've found it to be a good resource that's easy to use.

If not, I'll check for Clemence/Clement and marriage to Charles Couture and see if I can come up with any other leads. I'd not heard of this person, so any further possible lead is good news.

M

I don't have any information on Gilbert other than what I gave you. I am trying to find information on his parents because I believe (no proof yet) that he had a sister named Clemence/Clement Jessie who was married to Charles Seymour/Couture. I was hoping to find her parents but found Gilbert and was hoping to find them through him but have had absolutely no luck.

The Morrisonville burial records include the woman who was Gibert's wife -- Catherine. She is mentioned as "Forteau" in Gilbert's Civil War Pension file. She's listed there as "Martin" for a maiden name.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~frgen/clin...

There is another woman "Martin" on that page, a "Mary Fortin-Martin" Jersey (sic) who was married to Joseph Jersey (sic) and is the daughter of Anthony Fortin-Martin.

I suspect that there is a possibility that Mary and Catherine "Kate" Martin/Martier/Forteau Jessee are related.

Anthony Fortin-Martin is likely also "Antoine Martin" or "Antoine Martier" but I've not been able to confirm this, which is why I asked.

I have a similar makeup of people surrounding Gilbert Jesse in my tree but much is unsourced or in "theory" mode right now.

I suspect that Armenia Raymo/Raymond is as you note the daughetr of Pierre and Julie Montour, and was baptised "Ermine Raymond."

I also theorize that Kate Jesse / Catherine Fortin-Martin/Martier was the daughter of Antoine/Anthony and Scholastique Robert, also called "Celeste" or "Celestial" sometimes.

I know that many of these people exist, but I'm not always certain of the connection.

Like most, I have no parentage for Gilbert, which has frustrated many of us.
