Obituary for Chautauqua County, New York
“GEORGE W. SHATTUCK
George W. Shattuck, who suffered a stroke of apoplexy about two years ago, died Wednesday evening at 9:30 o’clock, aged 73 years, 2 month (sic) and 4 days [ March 27, 1912 ].
He leaves a wife, Mercy J. Phillips Shattuck, and two daughters, Mrs. Nathaniel E. Thomas and Mrs. A. Salander, both of this city. He was born at Russell, Pa., Jan. 23, 1839 and served in the Union Army during the Civil War, enlisting as a private in the Seventh company, First battalion, New York sharpshooters, Aug. 9, 1862, when 23 years old.
He was promoted corporal Dec. 29, 1863, and was mustered out with the company at Washington, D.C., June 3, 1865. He was a member of the James M. Brown post, G.A.R., of this city.
The funeral will be held privately from 111 Allen street Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock.”

“FUNERAL OF G. W. SHATTUCK
The funeral of George W. Shattuck was held privately from the home, 111 Allen street, Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. Dr. Charles H. Small, pastor of the First Congregational church, and Rev. E. C. Hall, officiating.
The music was by Mrs. Frank R. Reed. The bearers were: N. E. Thomas, A. Salander, A. Baldwin, T.D. Hanchett, A. H. Stafford and F. L. Farlee. The interment was in Kiantone cemetery.”
