Daniel Budlong Tyler/Hepzipbah Young

I am a relative of Daniel Budlong Tyler. There is apparenty very little to know about him save that he died in 1892 in Forest Grove, Montana and that he married one Hepzibah Young. Their first son, Daniel Lorenzo Tyler, was born in Mayville, NY on 17 Mar 1861. The family story is that Daniel B. Tyler was a grocer in New York State...he moved around quite a bit, eventually moving out to Montana.

The most reliable piece of data I have is the birthdate and place of his son, Daniel Lorenzo Tyler. Does anybody have any information on Daniel Lorenzo Tyler or Daniel Budlong Tyler?

Thanks!

Thanks for the extra info on Daniel L and Cora...I knew somewhat more about them, but every little bit helps. The big question is the ancestry of Daniel Budlong Tyler. From what the family has told me, they moved around in Montana for some time (where George was born), but a good portion of their lives were supposedly spent in either New York State or perhaps Illinois.

If you have any idea about them, I have hit a brick wall and any information about them would be very useful.

Could be...could be. I can certainly understand the confusion between 'V' and 'B'. The other Daniel, then, would be Daniel L, he is the right age. Ok, I will take this and run with it to see how verifiable it is. What would be really good to find would be either a birthdate, a birthplace, or even maybe parents of Daniel B. But, one thing at a time!

Thank you for your persistence!

Have you tried the Budlongs? That middle name of Daniel's just screams family surname, probably his mother's.

There was, e.g., an early Jediah Budlong in Jamestown, NY ca 1827, one of the first trustees of the village.

Source: Edson, Obed, History of Chautauqua County, New York. Boston, Mass.: W.A. Fergusson, 1894

More interesting, there was a Daniel Budlong in what is now Jefferson Co. NY in 1810. He was the son-in-law of Frederick Tyler (that surname sounds familiar, doesn't it?) who opened one of the first stores in the town of Tylerville (the very first one being opened by Josiah Tyler, with some indication that he might have been father to Frederick, but not clear.) Frederick also had an ashery. Tylerville, under the name of South Rutland, was made a P.O. in 1820. A David Tyler is mentioned there as early as 1808, as a founding member of the old Congregational society. The town was said to be named for Josiah.

There was a Daniel Budlong in RI as early as 1746.

Providence, R.I.: E.A. Johnson Co., 1926

He seems to have had a lot of namesakes over the years.

Capt. Josiah Tyler and brothers came to Rutland area in 1804 from Middlebury, CT. Fred Tyler came about 1816.

Yes, I have tried the Budlongs. You are quite right...I am sure it is a surname from somewhere. But I dont have access (or I think I dont have access) to 'The History of Chautauqua County'. It sounds like we have a match here. I need to research this more.

Unfortunately, Daniel B. Tyler is the oldest Tyler I have in my Genealogy save for some scattered here and there, and I have been working at it now for over a year off and on. There was a link somewhere to Hepzibah Young, but nothing turned up when I first researched it.

I also need to get back to family sources to do some confirmation. The name 'Daniel Budlong Tyler' is from family sources, and I want to make sure what they were using as sources. It would not surprise me at all to find that I am related to either Jedidiah Budlong or Josiah Tyler.

If you have any further information, I would be glad to hear of it! Or if you could point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

You might try to find a library in your area that subscribes to the Heritage Quest online genealogy and history service. The History of Chaut. Co. and many other books are online there (25,000 of them!).

Also, check out the DAR - they will do a free "Patriot lookup" on Capt. Josiah Tyler, for example (where did he get that title Capt.?) And do they have a Daniel Budlong listed as a Patriot? You can order copies of applications of DAR members that were based on a Patriot - these usually contain at least some descendants, and at least one line of the family down to the member. Their site is at

http://dar.org/default.cfm

Just click on DAR Patriot Lookup and submit a name.

Finally, check out the LDS site at

http://www.familysearch.org/

or even better, go to the nearest LDS Family History Cebter in your area and tell one of their friendly volunteers what you are looking for. Thye have tons of microfilmed records they can order for you if they're not in-house, including books and official records.

Rootsweb does not have a surname list for Budlong yet but there are 4 contacts for that name listed in their RSL. See

http://rootsweb.com/

for more.

Don't overlook that Tyler - Budlong connection in Jefferson Co. It sounded very promising to me. You might want to join that county's Rootsweb list and put out some feelers for you Daniel Budlong Tyler there.

You've probably done this, but if not, track down all the references to Daniel Budlong (with or without the Tyler) on the 'net. (You can find them with a Google search.)

Good luck!

I have been looking up the Budlongs for a little while now, and there is good information that there were Budlongs in the Revolutionary War. The question remains about the link to the Tyler family.

Some other new information has come from family sources. I already knew that supposedly my mother qualified for acceptance into the DAR, or so she had been told. However, I did not know that the Tylers and/or the Budlongs moved to Buffalo, NY, before leaving NY state altogether. So your suggestion for the DAR search is a good one.

Thank you for your information and your leads! Hopefully I will be able to crack this last 'brick wall' in our families heritage!
