Abraham Konings, born 22 January 1793 in Woold, Winterswijk, Gelderland, The Netherlands, son of Jan Konings and Enneken ten Damme, married in Winterswijk on 18 May 1825 with Hinders/Henders Nijenhuis, born 6 January 1800, daughter of Jan Nijenhuis & Enneken te Kulve. Abraham and Hinders and their children came to America in 1846 aboard the ship "Caledonia," which reached port in New York City on 21 July 1846. The family came to Chautauqua County and settled in Clymer and French Creek. Here the family name was changed from Konings to King. Abraham died 12 September 1871; Hinders (known here as Henrietta) died 29 June 1878. Both died in Clymer and are buried in the Clymer Hill Cemetery.
Their children, all born in Winterswijk, were Berendina (Delia), b.29 October 1825, married Henry Cady; Jan Willem (John), b.13 Feb 1828, married Aleida Willemina Mensink; Gerrit Jan, b.6 April 1830, married Willemina Mensink; Derk (Derrick), b.28 January 1834, married Frederika (Fanny) Hesselink; Elizabeth (Betty), b.30 January 1836, married Nathan P. Wilbur; Jan Hendrik, b.26 November 1838, married (1)Polly Farnsworth and (2) Percis Barlow Baker; Wessel (Westley/Wesley), b.25 January 1841, married Alta Wilbur.
With the exception of Elizabeth and Wessel, the children remained in the Clymer-French Creek area. Wessel moved to Minnesota and later to Wisconsin. Where Elizabeth went is unknown to me. There are several sites on the internet that record Derk marrying and living in Holland, Sheboygan County, WI, but they are incorrect.
