I can't help you with the families, but my grandfather Emory Gifford was born in 1864 in Deering Dorman's original house in Sherman. Probably his father Augustus was renting it at the time.

I've heard of the Eades family----I recall that my uncle Walter learned the tuning of the dulcimer from Saul Eades (1928).
