Hello Joe,

Thanks for your post.

Excuse my ignorance, but what did you check? Where are you getting Ligoša (or Ligoš) from?

I think the only thing to do is to do them all, having Ligos as the preferred with the rest as alternatives, maybe I can draw the attention of more family members and someone can set me straight.

Joe Backes

You may have settled on one or the other spelling by now, but I just saw your post. Did a quick check, and probably both are right. It looks like Ligoša (or Ligoš) was the original name, but as far as I could tell, they switched to Legos.
I don't know the spelling of the name but one of the children of Anna and Alexander - Alexander - was my grandfather. I have a watch that was a gift from Alexander to Alexander in 1915 and bears that inscription. I remember my Uncle Mike, my grandfather's brother and have heard stories about Andrew.

I wasn`t able to find an obit for Timothy Jenot but there is an announcement of the marriage of Timothy Jenot of Binghamton to Doris Lent, dau of Mr. & Mrs. Bert Lent in the March 11, 1924 issue of the Binghamton Press. You can find it & other mentions by searching for "Timothy Jenot" at http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html

Timothy & Doris are listed on the 1930 census in Binghamton under the name Jenob. He is 25, b. Mass. They have a dau. Charlotte, 11 months. The only likely candidate for this Timothy on the 1920 census is a Timothy Jennett, age 13, b. Mass., a son of Fred & Matte Jennett living in Granville, Addison Co., VT. The other children in the family are Richard, 11 & Charles, 9. Next door is the Henry & Ethel Jennett family.

Pat R.

Then click on the Search button. When the results show up, scroll down to the start of the Binghamton newspapers. Good luck.

I am a descendant of Patrick Smith whose father emigrated from Ireland in 1838 along with his wife whose maiden name was Mangan and whose brothers lived in Broome County, NY. Her brothers had emigrated earlier and she wanted to move near them on the mountain near Front Street. She and her husband moved to a log cabin next to them and a road was cleared to lead from Front St.(Route 12) and later named Smith Road. I was told by my mother that we were cousins of Joseph P. Mangan, a lawyer, whose office was at the American Legion Post on Route 7 (Brandywine Highway) near Hillcrest,NY outside of Bingamton. The Mangans were actually there much ealier than your information states. I found records that dated back to 1821. I hope this helps you.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Mangan-Smith-Wells-Forman

I found Susan Putnam Putman in the census but I don't follow the connection either. As for her burial ground, go to http://www.pressconnects.com, put in the search term "Interstate 81 burial grounds" without the quotes and you'll pretty much get the story. If you pay for the article, they may have a contact person/place to search for the records you're looking for if there is in fact a marked grave somewhere. Most likely the Broome County public library can help you if you call them directly and ask for the genealogy department. The Alms house is located in front of the Broome Community College on Front St. in Binghamton. It has also been a jail. BCC owns the land and the Alms house is too expensive to maintain so the plan at this time is to demolish it.

Hi, George Youngs married Julia A. Crannell and lived with their children and wifes mother, Catherine Crannell in Colesville in 1880. My relative is Catherine's other child, Cornelius Crannell, from Colesville, NY. He died in the civil war. The 137th Regiment. Enlisted 1862, also, died 2 months later at Harper's Ferry. I'm just guessing, but possibly George is your William's brother or cousin? Sounds like they may have enlisted together. Kim

Interesting! The plot is thickening... What are the dates you have associated with George Youngs and Julia Crannell? Do you have birth, marriage or death for either of them?

To complicate things, there is also a GEORGE YOUNG (without the "s") who marries into this family. He is Jesse Youngs' son-in-law through his marriage to Jesse Youngs' daughter Mildred Youngs. Thus Mildred became Mildred (Youngs) Young. I've seen a few articles on fultonhistory.com mentioning Jesse Youngs and his mother Sarah Youngs visiting with George Youngs, but it is possible that it is George Young (without the "s") and that a mistake was made by the paper. On the other hand, it's very possible that George Youngs (with the "s") is a separate relation.

If you have any dates or other sources you can share with me this might help us solve this puzzle. It would be great to learn that we have some family in common!

Thanks
Noi

I am a descendant of Patrick Smith whose father emigrated from Ireland in 1838 along with his wife whose maiden name was Mangan and whose brothers lived in Broome County, NY. Her brothers had emeigrated earlier and she wanted to move near them on the mountain near Front Street.

They are on file with the clerk of the municipality where the event occurred (town, village or city). Probate records date to 1806 and are on file with the Surrogate's Court office, Broome County Courthouse, P.O. Box 1766, Binghamton, NY 13902.
Hey Mary,
My mother's maiden name is Meyler and we recently started researching our family history for our trip to Ireland in december. In our family records, we found that my great-great-grandfather's name was Patrick Meyler from Wexford, Ireland and he married a Margaret Fitzgerald from Binghamton, New York sometime in the 1870's or early 1880's. They had approximately 5 children that we knew about, Sarah, Nicholas, James, John, and Robert. They lived in Denver, Colorado for the early part of the children's lives and later moved to Newark, New Jersey where they settled. Let me know if this sounds accurate to your family's history. We may be related.
Thanks, Cristina Caamano

Thanx for the alert.

Yes her maiden was Susan Olive Lampman....and there might be some indication that she had a prior marriage in Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada
Herman Putman is the correct name. i've been applying so much effort to my Buchner line it just slipped out.

regards
Neil Daniels

After some more digging around I found Ruth.
First I found an obit for her grandson Kenneth R. Gray, at www.fultonhistory.com , who died as an infant. It mentions his paternal grandparents; Virgil Gray, Windsor and Ruth Krum, Rome, NY.
Next looked at SS Index and found a Ruth Krum, born 5/24/1902; died Dec 1985, Rome, Oneida, NY.

Looked in SS index for Krum's who died in Rome,NY and found a George Krum born and died around the same time as Ruth.

Then checked out the Oneida County web site and found Obituary extracts from "The Rome Daily Sentinal"
Found this;
Ruth I. Krum, died Dec. 3, 1985.
Parents; Chauncey Simmons & Grace Merrill.
Spouse; Virgil Gray.
2nd marriage; George E. Krum, he died, 3/8/1979.

George is buried Rome cemetery, didn't see Ruth's name listed.

Now I need to get full obituary and find out where she is buried.

Trying to find out what bacame of my paternal great Aunt, Ruth Simmons, she was born in Sidney, Delaware Co. NY., abt. 1903.
On Dec. 27, 1921 she married Virgil D. Gray.
In 1930 census they are living in Binghamton, with children, Constance, Jeannette, Kenneth, Robert, and Jean.
They seem to have divorced by the time of Virgils death in March of 1963 as there is no mention of her in his obituary. In my grandfather/her brother Leon's obit in 1965 she is listed as Mrs. Ruth Kriem.
Any help is appreceated.
Wayne
