You may already have this but I found a few more things that might connect.

http://theusgenweb.org/ny/broome/

Search in quotes "Johnson Charles" a couple of hits

#2 is Woodward database(not sure what this is) but

Johnson, Charles B Dead: Horace S Griswald appt admin 1837-08-14

Johnson, Charles B Dead: Charles E Johnson and Issac Stow, both of Chenango, appt admin 1835-08-11

C-Abstract of Will Book C
P-Probate information

I don't know what this is but it seems that they are public notices printed in a paper announcing information on the probate of a will. It looks like Charles B Johnson died in 1835 and these are the administrators of his will. Perhaps one of the original two listed died and they had to appoint another administrator. I don't live near Broome County so I cannot look up the Probate records for you and I don't know how you obtain them in Broome County. You could post a new message asking if anyone would do a look up and see if there is a will. Sometimes there is a lot of information. In my county they allow you to search the wills yourself and examine all the papers connected to that probate record.

Yes this is him, Kathy, because in 1 of the books he wrote they printed his dates as 1788?-1835, & I didn't know if he'd died in the UK or the US. So this solves that question, & I'll endeavour to find his will. Charles E Johnson must be one of his sons I think. So far I've only found a Thomas J & I haven't managed to link him to Charles B J yet, but am still working on it. I e-mailed this Michael R Britten-Kelly who was looking for help finding the Spratt family back in 1999 but no response so far. Of course in 10 years he may have changed his e-mail address. Anyway we'll see. Thanks again all tid-bits are appreciated. I've just been reading excerpts from the Pacific American Fisheries Inc book, Everett [Ed]B.Deming was quite a business man! Carolyn did well marrying him! Roz.

Hello Pat & Kathy, Today I had a reply from the Broome Co Historical Soc & the very nice gentleman there had looked up what they had, before he responded to me, & said they charge $10 an hour & he felt that that would be enough to cover what he could send me. So I've sent the money & now I await info. He knew the date he'd arrived in the US. I asked where to get his death cert but apparently NY state didn't start issuing those until 1880, so that's worth knowing, & he did in fact die in 1835. I asked him about the Woodward database & it would cost close to $100 to obtain the will from there. I thought the will would undoubtedly mention all his children & perhaps even tell us where his wife was. However he said I could probably get it much cheaper from the Mormon site, so I'll look into that. Well I'm certainly making progress with lots of help from you 2 ladies. Thanks a bunch! Roz.

I know you have tried the fultonhistory site but I tried it using in quotes "Primrose Johnson" and there is a cople hits about her getting a settlement from the railway as a result of her husband being killed. Time frame -before 1853.

Yes I did browse it for about an hour but haven't had time to get back to it yet. You & Pat keep sending me too many other things to look up too. I'm not complaining, I'm delighted, but there aren't enough hours in my day to get all this done & get on with other things in my life! Anyway there's been a lot of progress in the last few days, thanks to you both. Roz.

I copied the census records for Thomas and Primrose Johnson for you.

1850 NYS Census Broome County Chenango

Primrose 40 b England
Robert M 12
Charles 10
Levi 8
Cameron 3
Anna 1

Relationships are not listed on the 1850 census. I wonder if the Isabella Marr may be the mother of Primrose. On the 1880 Primrose is listed as being born in Scotland and also her parents. Just something you may want to check. Bridget Merin may be a servant.

I have found much info on the Thomas and Primrose Johnson family including Thomas' connection to Charles Britten Johnson. I will post a little at a time.

Obit for Anna Johnson, daughter of Thomas and Primrose Johnson.

Miss Anna Leavenworth Johnson, a lifelong resident of this city, died at her home,150 Chapin St. With her death, passes a representative of the pioneer stock of the city. Her paternal grandfather, Dr. Charles Britton Johnson, came to this country early in the 19th century, sent by the British government in the interest of colonization. Miss Johnson was the daughter of the late Thomas and Primrose Johnson, and was born and lived most of her life where the Masonic Temple now stands. She was a member of the Trinity Memorial Church. She is survived by the following nieces and nephews, Mrs Charles H Burnett of this city, Mrs John D Folmsbee and Edward C Lewis of Rochester, George M Lewis of Geneva, and Effie and Kenneth Johnson of Erie, Pa.

Kathy, this is wonderful, thank you so much. I've now sent my money to the Broome history soc to send me what they know & have also sent my money to sampubco for Primrose & Thomas's wills. I did a lot of searching to no avail for Isabella Marr & Primrose in Scotland. Since you've now found so much,& more to come, how about we continue at our own e-mail addresses, going thro' this board all the time is a pain in the neck, so for both you & Pat my address is rozfisher at sympatico dot ca. Also I found this M R Britten-Kelly's e-mail address & wrote to him but it bounced back, so now I've found his add & tel # in the white pages, I think I'm going to phone him. Spent a long time on the Fulton site last night too & found the stuff on Primrose & also some land belonging to her in Binghamton. Anyway I'm thoroughle enjoying all that you & Pat are finding so now e-mail me at home, please. Thanks very much again, Roz
