Searching for any Mangan Relatives!! I believe that some of the Mangan family may have moved to Broome County. I don't have a lot to go on, but here is what I have:

Francis "Frank" Mangan b. 1831 in Ireland emigrated to the US in about 1853 - naturalized in Oneida Co. in 1858.

Listed in the 1860 Census - Clayville, Town of Paris, Oneida County:
Frank Mangan age 42 Farmer, born Ireland, can read & write
Mary Mangan, age 33, born Ireland, cannot read or write
Joseph Mangan, age 13 (my g-grandfather)
Margaret Mangan, age 12 (married Rockwell)
Frank Mangan, age 10
Patrick Mangan, age 7
Julia Mangan, age 2
James Mangan, age 8 mos
* all children were born in NY *

Joseph Mangan married Catherine Gaffney of Westmeath Ireland and had 5 Children: Catherine, William, Julia, Mary and Margaret Carolyn (my g-mother).

I'm hoping to connect with ANY Mangan Family member! Please feel free to email me direct - I will respond to all inquiries. Any information will be GREATLY appreciated.

Mangan in Liberty, Broome County,NY be late 1940's. One son, Thomas, attended Annapolis Naval Academy in 1950's, became career Navy. I do not know them: he was a family friend, deceased in early 1990's. He was in his 60's. Attended Notre Dame. Born in early 1930's. In Broome County, you're correct.

I think this is the Thomas Mangan I went to school with in the mid-40's.. He probably attended St John's Catholic church on Vestal Ave and Binghamton Central High School ..old year books are available in the library in Binghamton ..upstairs Gen Room.
He had blond hair, blue eyes and wore glasses...I moved away in 1947 and lost contact at that time.

In researching, I have found MORE of my Mangan Family.

Francis Mangan (b1831) came from Ireland in 1853, and was married to Julia (Last name unknown). They lived in Clayville, Town of Paris, Oneida County and had the following children:
Margaret Mangan ROCKWELL b1858
Joseph Mangan 1859-1903 (my g-gfather)
Frank Mangan b.1860
Patrick Mangan b.1863

Julia apparently died after the birth of Patrick and about 1866 he married Mary DUNNIGAN Mangan and had the following children:
Julia Mangan SNYDER b1868
James Mangan b.1869
Mary Mangan PIKE b. 1871
Lawrence Mangan b. 1872
William Mangan b 1874
Matthew Mangan b. 1877
Thomas Mangan b. 1879
About 1895, Francis and Mary moved the family to the city of Utica. Francis died about 1905. I have no information on the youngest 5 Mangan children, nor have I found any info about the younger Frank Mangan. Rumours state that some of them may have moved out west, and/or some to Broome County.

Any information is sincerely apprecitated!

Hi
My husband, George, is a Mangan. He was born in 1936 in Pgh. Pa. His father was John Mangan who was born in Ireland in 1878. He, married Martha Baumbach. There are quite a few Mangans in Pittsburgh.

I am a descendant of Patrick Smith whose father emigrated from Ireland in 1838 along with his wife whose maiden name was Mangan and whose brothers lived in Broome County, NY. Her brothers had emeigrated earlier and she wanted to move near them on the mountain near Front Street. She and her husband moved to a log cabin next to them and a road was cleared to lead from Front St.(Route 12) and later named Smith Road. I was told by my mother that we were cousins of Joseph P. Mangan, a lawyer, whose office was at the American Legion Post on Route 7 (Brandywine Highway) near Hillcrest,NY outside of Bingamton. The Mangans were actually there much ealier than your information states. I found records that dated back to 1821. I hope this helps you.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Mangan-Smith-Wells-Forman
