There is an obituary for Albert O. Deats from the New York Times, published about 24 May 1918:

"Deats, - Albert O., 528 East 147th St., May 22. Funeral today."

Nellie and Margaret Deats that you found are are listed in the 1920 census at the same address, 528 East 147th St.

Albert, Helen and Margaret Deats are listed in the 1910 Federal Census for Kings County, New York, New York City, Borough of the Bronx, Assembly District 32, Ward 23, Supervisor's District 1, Enumeration District 1432, sheet 18B on 147th Street.

Albert, Helen and Margaret Deats are listed in the 1905 State Census for New York County, New York, New York City, Borough of Bronx, Election District 39, block C, Assembly District 34, page 35 at 737 East 147th Street.

All the ages match up pretty good.

Correcting a "Mistake" on a Birth Certificate

You may not need a court order if you only want to correct a "mistake" on your birth certificate.

An example of a "mistake" is correcting Dauid to David. This requires written proof of the mistake which may include:

a letter from the hospital
immunization records
doctor's records
school admission letter
religious document
life insurance policy
If you want to change your name, you need a court order. An example of a name change is changing June to Edna. You can use the DIY Form to make your court papers.

To correct a "mistake" on your birth certificate
If you were born within the five boroughs of New York City, contact the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Office of Vital Records at 212-639-9675.

Now that you have more information, if you want, you can obtain a copy of the death certificate from the Municipal Archives, 31 Chambers Street, NY, NY. Go to the website for NYC government and vital statisics.

I was born in 1975, December. My birth certificate was totally messed up. It states that my mother is from Guyana, in fact she is from India. It doesn't even state if I am a male or female. What was going on those years? How can I correct this if the hospital is no longer open?

also you will find that walter was and annie were married before there are a few matches to walter's marriage but the first names don't match the wives first names which means they are either using middle names or nicknames in 1900 he was married 2 yrs which puts marriage abt 1897 / 1898 second marriage from the 1910 census states they were married 5 yrs which put marriage around 1905/06

I'm sorry... I agree with the previous poster. You had the opportunity when you posted to set the Classification. Didn't you see the box with the choices? You could have picked birth or biography. The title of the post gives no indication it is about a specific individual. In addition, the previous poster asked two legitimate questions about your "query". By not responding to those questions, you showed your opinion about the regulars on this board.

A number of us on these message boards try to help as many people as we can. When I see a "query", I look at the post. You wasted my time that could be put to help people with real queries.

The info does mean something to me..... that your post is misplaced (deserves to be put on a surname board or a different location), mislabeled (not a query), and misleading to helpers on the Bronx board, dear.

To whom it my concern,
I have tried to find my cousin for quite awhile but without any luck.
I know it is a long time my cousin Beryl Narcissus would be about 72years of age.
The last known address that I know of was The Bronx.
Beryl’s husbands name Tony he died quite few years ago & I can remember Beryl telling me my mother that he had his photo in the hall of frame.
Tony was USA sailor & died in hospital Beryl had two children the girl name was June & a boy called Wayne.
Beryl’s aunty whose name is Lily King but my mother has Alzheimer & can’t remember Beryl’s address.
It is just one of those things you seem you have to do & I would appreciate any help I could get in finding Beryl.

NY City death index: Bennett Dorothy, 2 y, died Jun 11 1919, cert # 19177, Manhattan

If she was born 1917 and died 1919, those years are in between the 1915 NY State census and the 1920 US census, you won't find her there.

I am looking for any help in finding a child born to Peter F. Bennett and Katherine V. Hayes. Her name was Dorthy Bennett possibly born in 1917 and died on 12 June 1919 and buried at Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. I can not find her listed in any census and I have tried looking in the NY State Census of 1915. Her parents moved to Colorado for a few months-year in 1920 and Peter and Katherine were married in 1910 at All Saints Catholic Church on Madison and 129th street in NY. They had one child who also died young but I do not know her name and they had two other girls - Veronica and Ruth. Any help will be helpful!

According to the NYC death index at the NYC Public Library, John Felker died in the Bronx on 12 September 1963, death certificate number BX 10039. No obituary appeared in either the NY Times or the NY Daily News on three subsequent days, sorry. You may be able to obtain a death certificate from the NYC Dept. of Health, although it's not easy. Good luck.

Family of John Joseph O'Rourke

Trying to locate the family of my grandmother's brother, John Joseph O'Rourke married to Elizabeth Bennett in Scotland, 5 children, Elizabeth, Matilda or Mildred, James, Margaret and Jean. Last known address was 1134 Bryant Avenue, Bronx on 22 January 1943. I do know about them before they went to New York, however finding it difficult to locate anything after 1943.

I could not locate them on a 1905 or 1910 census. However, they both came to the United States before 1905. They had heir first child in 1908 in New Rochelle, New York.

John Felker died Sept 1963. he was born in 1896. Family was living on Brooks Ave, Bronx in 1942.

He had a son john, b. 1929, and a daughter, Gertrude b.1931.
his wife was Ann.

Trying to find where they are buried. Wife Ann is my ancestral link.

John Jr. went to Cornell university(was awarded a fellowship) in Sept. 1951. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1951.

any leads greatly appreciated.

I am trying to locate the marriage certificate for my great grandparents. They would have married somewhere in New York, now believed to be in the Bronx area, between 1904 - 1908. Their names were Joseph Iannuzzi (B. 1885) and Philomena Hautamaki (B. 1882). I have looked on ancestry.com, familysearch.org, and www.italiangen.org without any luck. Any help would be appreciated. Emma Matthiessen was the grandmother of Emma Rasch. (Emma M. was mother of Emma R.'s deceased mother.) Emma M. was living at E 182n n Daly Ave in the 1908 directory, and at 1919 Napes Ave in the 1911 directory.
I have been trying to find both of them about 1909 or 1910.
The story is interesting: Emma M. (grandmother) "took" Emma R. from Emma R.'s father, and both Emma's were in hiding. So, it would be really good to know where they were in 1909 and/or 1910! I am thinking they were in the Bronx, but don't really know that for sure!

I found only Joseph Rettinger in the 1910 City Directory.

Hi Nancy,
I found someone with my dad's name listed there in 1930 but also listed with his parents at home. His name is unusual for a Catholic boy (John Bernstein) but his age is correct and there was a family story about "deliquency"....so I think it's him.
We're Cassidys three generations back in Ireland.

FamilySearch images are down... but they have a John Fieker with spouse Anna and children John, Gertrude, on the 1940 census for 1940 Bronx.

Ancestry has a John Freker with spouse Anna in the Bronx, with offspring John and Gertrude

You have to learn to use wildcards in your searches.
