Hello. John S Martin was my great grandfather. Jesse Newton was my grandfather and my father was Gary. I don't have a lot of family history on this side. But am actively searching. I know he was born Oct 9 1883 in Kentucky and died Oct 20 1944. He is buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Curry County New Mexico. His wife's name was Olia Augusta Cox and they had 7 children : jesse Newton, Lester Lee, Bertie, Ethel, Earl, Juanita and J.D. I am looking for a death certificate or a grave for Etta E. Flannery Kegley that supposedly died in New Mexico on June 12, 1908. I don't remember where I came up with this date. I am the great grandson of Mary Francis Bowling & David Troy Griffin. My paternal grandfather was Perry Wilson McGaha & my paternal grandmother was Bertha Jane Griffin. After David Griffin died, Mary Francis lived with Perry & Bertha on the family farm in Lingo, New Mexico until her death.

Obituaries back to 2006 can be found at Portales News-Tribune's web site.

These obituaries will be harder to find because of their age.

I didn't read through all the entires (because the font is so small) but click on each one, read the details and you can decide which ones you want. Successful Searching!

Hi...I'm related to Nicholas Parks through his wife Laura M. Landreth. Laura's father, Solomon Landreth, was my gggrandfather. Nicholas and Laura were married in Oklahoma and left there around 1906 for New Mexico.

Sure thing. Which of Vera's brothers was your dad?
I have a copy of Vera and John's marriage license and I also have read some letters he wrote to her both during and after their divorcem and a letter from one of his sisters to Vera. He was a wealthy man, an entreprenuer, but many years older than Vera. She was 40 when they married and he was 70. It only lasted a few months, their marriage, so I'm not surprised your mom didn't know about that marriage.

Laura's death record is on pilot.familysearch.org. Think she died in San Antonio or Austin. I didn't find Alred Allen, but can give marrige info on two of the children.

William Johnson Gilbert 1841-1914 Causey, Roosevelt Co, NM

I am looking for information on William Johnson Gilbert. I am not a relative, but looking for information on his military service during the Civil War for the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
He served on the side of the Confederacy with the state of Alabama. I have found two possible units. William J. Gilbert served with the 43rd regiment, Alabama infantry, Company K. Rank in was 1st lieutenant (expanded 3rd lieutenant) rank out was private. The other record shows William Gilbert 48th regiment, Alabama infantry, company D with the rank of private in and sargeant out.
He was born August 18, 1841 in Pickens County, Alabama.
He married Sarah Jane Trafton in 1866 Gonzales, TX
He died April 17, 1914 in Causey, Roosevelt Co., NM
William and Sarah's children were Benjamin b.? d.?, Mattie b.? d.?, Martha A. b. 1867 d.?, Mary E. 1869 to 1945, Nancy Christine 1871 to 1940, Laura H. b. 1874 d. ?, James Malachi 1875 to 1938, Alfred C. b. 1877 d.?, Jefferson 1880 to 1949, Oliver Nathan 1882 to 1967, William Henry 1887 to 1961, Norma Jane 1891 to 1959, and Angeline 1900 to 1924.

Vera Standard Danning and John Edward Wright married in Portales, NM in 1956. But no one in the families can find any evidence that they divorced, although he later married an Emma Sipes and then lived in California and Quilcene, Washington.

Everett O. & Maude M. (Scott) Shuler/Schuler c. 1907 Dora NM

This man is a distant relative. He was born in 1879 in Daviess Co., Missouri. His wife was born in Chariton Co., Missouri in 1881. They married c. 1901 in Noble, Cleveland Co., Oklahoma. They are enumerated in the 1910 census for Dora, NM. He was a farmer. They had 4 children: Mae/May;Edwin S.;Nadine; & Sirmaud. All children were born in New Mexico (Dora, I suspect). The Mount Zion Cemetery in Dora has two Schuler headstones next to one another. No dates on the headstones, but one reads: Mrs. Schuler and the other reads Schuler (boy). I believe this to be the wife of Everett O. Shuler; although I have not located her in the NM Death Index. Is there any resource I can go to to find if those two Schuler's buried in Mt.Zion Cemetery are Maude Shuler/Schuler and her infant son?

Everett Shuler must have died prior to 1920 since I do not find him anywhere. I don't believe he died in New Mexico, though. His children are living with their maternal grandparents in Noble, Cleveland Co., Oklahoma.
