It does not help you a great deal but: he is listed in the "early death records of Luna County" here:
http://newmexicoalhn.net/
as having died on June 6,1918
Camp Deming AKA known as Camp Cody and various other names, was also the site of a TB sanitorium-Holy Cross; the cemetery on those grounds is long gone-much vandalized-and the whereabouts of records is unknown. There is only one main cemetery in Luna County-Mountain View-and he is not shown to be buried there.
The record of his death can also be found on familysearch.org but no burial place is given.

I am looking for information on Roy John Herrmann.
My family history says he died at Camp Deming NM
June 1918. I cannot find any confirmation of this.
Are there any records to be accessed?? Is there a cemetery there on site??
Roy John Herrmann was born 1893 West Virginia son of George and Rose Herrmann. Enlisted in Army in Colorado (was working in oilfields there)in 1917. And reportedly died at Camp Deming NM of pneumonia in June 1918. Any information appreciated.

Norweigen roots in Deming, NM: Roy Westboy, b.1880s possibly Deming, NM; d. 1953 Chicago, IL

Was there a large population of Norweigens that settled in or aroung Deming, NM?? I have been tracing my great-grandfather for over 10 years, without any luck. New evidence says he was from Deming, NM.

Looking for any info on Roy William Westboy. Been searching for him for years. Have several documents from 1917 until his death in 1953, but can find absolutely nothing before 1917. All of the documents I have say he was born January 1st, but range in year from 1880-1887. So not sure which year exactly.

1940 census has him living in Springfield, MI. It says he was born in New Mexico. WWII draft says he was born in Deming, NM on January 1, 1880

WWI draft card says he was born in Kristiana, Norway on January 1, 1887.

1930 census says he was born in Louisiana and his parents were born in South America.

Death certificate says he was born in Illinois and his parents were John Westboy and Mary Gonzales.

Can't determine where he is in the 1900, 1910, or 1920 censuses. His wife and child were living in Chicago, IL in 1920 without him. They lived there until the 1950s.

Family story has it, that he was born in Norway and adopted out of England before coming to the U.S. Nothing found to prove this story though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am unfamiliar with researching in New Mexico.

Thanks!
Aymee

I didn't receive any of the first messages concerning this query so don't know the particulars. There was a parochial school in Deming, NM, from 1931 to 1938. Grades one through eight were taught and I have heard that the nuns were very strict to the point it may have been thought of as a reform school by some of the pupils.
sunshine@zianet.com

I only attended school in Deming in 1950-1951, my freshman year in high school. My parents lived there for several years (1954-1970´s), but to the best of my knowledge, there was not a school with nuns in Deming. However, there was a catholic school, grades 1-6, I believe, located in Silver City.

Thanks for responding! I guess it could have been considered a regular school if regular schools had extremely harsh rules. It was run by nuns. My dad said the other boys were very rough, so he thought it was a reform school.

My dad and his brothers went there every day for school and then one day my grandmother just didn't pick them up to go home.

I have been looking for information on Henry Runyan. He was my great grandfather's brother. I found an old Roots_L message that said he settled in New Mexico. He appears to be the same Henry Davis Runyan who died in Deming, Luna, New Mexico in 1941. His death record says his spouse's name is Mattie Welton. The children you list match what I have on my tree. I got them from the 1920 and 1930 Oklahoma census records. I wasn't sure if the family in Oklahoma was my Henry or not. I knew he ived in Oklahoma. His brother George also lived in Oklahoma. Henry was living with his mother in 1900 Lamar County, Texas and appears to have first married a girl who was also living in the same house in 1900 Lamar, TX. Her name was Nancy Watson. I would be interested in any information you have.

Jimmy R Harris
Texas

I'm fleshing out the family history and thought it would be more interesting to have details.
Thanks,
Susan

Hi, I believe your best alternative is to visit your local Veteran’s Administration, (not a hospital). They have all vets records on computer file now. They will generally look up the death data for you.

Charles Barnum
Genealogy Trails webmaster
