Enough homesteaders had settled 10 miles south of Cuervo that the Haile post office was opened in 1907. After it closed in 1918, mail was delivered R.F.D. out of Cuervo. The area had two schools: Haile and Pleasant Valley.

From its founding in 1911, a Baptist church met at the Haile school until 1920, when it moved to the Pleasant Valley school. Church meetings were one-weekend-per-month with socials and business meetings on Saturdays,
and Sunday school and preaching on Sundays.

A regular Southern Baptist church in good standing with the Northeastern Association of the New Mexico Baptist Convention, it was known as the Haile (or Pleasant Valley) Missionary Baptist Church of Christ.

Since dry land farming and ranching were their means of living, the dust bowl years caused most to move elsewhere, when the church ceased to exist.

My father's eldest brother was the last church clerk, so I have a complete copy it (including its membership roll) uploaded to our family's Yahoo group, freely accessible to anyone searching for names of pastors and that community's residents. If you'll E-mail me, I'll give your the free URL which won't post here.
