The Old Hurley Cemetery is still there, although not in use. There are a multitude of unmarked graves-only a few stones remain.
http://newmexicoalhn.net/grant/old_hurleycemetery.htm The cemetery is not anywhere near the open pit mine. Open pit mining began in about 1910, and is in the area known as Santa Rita. Hurley in the time you reference was little more than a "tent city", with open ranch range surrounding it. Further in the future Hurley became the site of the copper smelting operations, and offices, which are now gone.
According to county records, something was printed about Job Sayre in one of the local papers of the day. Give me a day or two to check it out;microfilm of those early papers is iffy, but I'll give it a go.
