Dear Patti,
I want to thank you for answering my query. I took a shot and looked through the marriage listings on the Eddy Co., NMGenWeb that are listed. This is what I found.
Blakeney, John Allen married Yarbrou 8-31-1903 book 0001a
no page listing.
Why? Out of all the listing would this one have to not list the full name of the Yarbrou. This very possibly may be the marriage of Alevia Yarbrough to Mr. Blakeney.
My grandmother said that Alevia went by wagon train to Hope, NM sometime around 1900. I assumed that Alevia had married before they migrated to NM. Are you aware of any migration to Eddy County around that time period? I do know that Alevia was living in Hope, because her mother Nancy Yarbrough traveled to Hope and stayed there quite a while. When she came back, for what ever reason, she had to sign a document that said she had always been a resident of LaSalle Co., TX and had only been on a visit to Hope, NM.
Also in the Lower Hope Cemetery there is a J. A. Blakeney born 1880 and died 1957. I found some internment records a while back that says he died 1945, probably from the Eddy Co., NMGenWeb.
I did also note in my notebook the records that you found from the funeral home. Fannin Co., TX as their births threw me. I did do a little bit of research on these Blakeneys, but did not see what the connection may be since Fannin County is located above Dallas and McMullen Co., is located SW of SanAntonio. If there was some type of migration to NM then Alevia Yarbrough may have been traveling with friends and she met Mr. Blakeney after she arrived in Eddy County. I am also guessing that the Blakeney that I am looking for is possibly related to the other Blakeneys that I have found in the area.
I guess now I will visit Eddy NMGenWeb and find out how to obtain a marriage record from the county clerk.
Thank you very much for your help.
Sincerely,
Renee Smelley
