Kennedy Bessie Louvine Brittain Obit

Bessie Louvine Brittain was born on July 13, 1921 to James and Bertha Brittain in Birmingham , AL . The doctor didn’t expect Bessie to live through the night of her birth. In fact, she was born so premature that the first night her bed was the dresser drawer. Bessie fought that first night and continued on throughout her life. She persevered over ninety-one years and nine months. She survived the loss of her pastor husband, two knee replacements, a broken hip and her first bout with breast cancer. Through it all she kept her sense of humor, her love for the Lord and her desire to do His will. In 35 years she wrote over 500 Open Windows devotions, more than 160 articles and dozens and dozens of poems. Her writings have impacted countless readers from around the world. She received hundreds of letters thanking her for her ministry. She and Harold Dye were the most popular Open Windows writers. People from all over the country were touched by her writings. Bessie was an amazing wife and ministry partner. Being a pastor’s wife for close to 40 years allowed Bessie to invest in many lives. She ministered in almost every capacity in the church, taught Sunday School for well over 50 years and led many Vacation Bible Schools. She was a Bible Scholar, a guardian of doctrinal truth and an incredible teacher. She was a clear voice for communicating the Gospel of Christ and an advocate for meeting the needs of people. Bessie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Bessie was an incredible mom. She prayed for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren every day of their lives. She taught biblical principles to her children by example, model and instruction. She had great patience and unconditional love…a life of grace and compassion. She cared, listened and taught. When asked how she persevered she simply repeated her favorite hymn, “just trust and obey for there is no other way.” The writer of Hebrews stated that those who are faithful in discharging their assignments here will receive from the Heavenly Father, as promised, an amazing inheritance. Bessie L. Kennedy received her amazing inheritance on Wednesday, May 08, 2013 . Welcome home, Bessie, “Well-done, good and faithful servant.”

Bessie L. Kennedy was preceded in death by her husband Martin T. Kennedy Sr; her parents James and Bertha Brittain, Sisters Marguerite Jones and Nancy Shanks and one brother James Douglas Brittain. She is survived by one brother, John Robert Brittain, three children Peggy Ann Peters, Martin T. Kennedy Jr. and Kirby Kenneth Kennedy; five grandchildren Kimberly Dawn Peters, Robert Lee Peters II, Melissa Lanette Kennedy, Sarah Elizabeth Kennedy and Laura Brittain Kennedy; and five great-grandchildren Kathryn Ariana Coss, Kristen Briana Coss, Cameron Lee Peters, Tiffany Zoe Peters and Harper Alyse Keenright as well as a host of other family and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Bessie's life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the First Baptist Church to begin at 10:00am. Arrangements are with La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home.

Bargfeld Mary Alice Obit

Mary Alice Bargfeld 1920-2013 Mary was a smart, compassionate and fiercely independent woman who made the most of a hard life. Born a farmer's daughter on August 3, 1920 in Norris, Montana, Mary worked with her parents Albert Farwell Fisher and Anna Caroline Fisher (Kennedy) and her five brothers Abe, Bill, Art, Roy and Gene; and two sisters, Betty Patton and Alberta Duford on the family homestead at Round Butte, Montana. She milked cows, raised chickens, stacked hay and helped with the inside chores as well. The family wasn't wealthy, they had to till the fields with horses. After graduation from Ronan High school in 1938, she married Henry Knight and bore a son, John. When World War II broke out, Mary moved to Portland, Oregon to learn to weld battle ships, while her husband fought overseas. Because of her light weight, she stood on a platform that was raised and lowered by co-workers from above by hand. She was truly a "Rosy the Riveter." After the war she moved to Bell Crossing, Montana and ran a service station with her husband. Times were tough and they were unable to make a go of it. Mary moved back to Ronan, Montana and taught herself accounting. She worked at Gold Medal dairy as an office manager. After a divorce, she pretty much raised her son by herself. She moved to Missoula, Montana in 1953, where she worked as the office manager and served as an officer at Meadowland Dairy. In 1955, she married her second husband, Rusty Bargfeld, in Missoula, Montana. There they built two houses while working at their regular jobs. In 1977, she and Rusty decided to return to farming. They bought a ranch at Arlee, Montana and built a third house there, while they raised cattle, sheep, chickens, and pigs. Only this time she got to use tractors to cultivate the land. In spite of the bitter cold winters, Mary loved the ranch. She had a huge garden. Lots of the produce went to the neighbors. Plus she had one of the valley's most beautiful rose gardens. Mary helped deliver calves (she was once hospitalized by an angry mother),vaccinate cattle, set hand sprinklers, while cooking and making home made cherry pies freshly picked from the tree in back of the house. While at Arlee she served on the water conservation board. After Rusty died, the ranch became too much for her. In 1985 she moved to Waukesha, Wisconsin to be near her family. She continued to garden, do volunteer work, and help people do their taxes. But she didn't like the snow and ice of Wisconsin, so she moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1994. She bought a house and started another garden. She joined a quilting group (you had to take a sewing test to become a member) and made several prize winning quilts. One of her favorite activities was to walk along the Rio Grande River with family and friends. She was greatly loved and will be missed by her son, John Knight (Lynn) Waukesha, Wisconsin; sister, Alberta Duford, Pablo, Montana; grandsons, J.T. Knight, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and T.J. Knight (Erin) Pasadena, California; great grandson, Ian Solt, Seattle, Washington and great granddaughter Olivia Knight, Pasadena, California, and other extended family.

Arrangements are with La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home.

Thanks Marcena. I do plan to visit the library for something in the near future, I'll check to see if they have any old phone books. I really didn't consider the library because I didn't think that our local Texas library would have old New Mexico phone books. It's worth taking a look. Thanks again, Kathy

Schodorf-Vandiver Lydia Obit

Surrounded by her loving family our beautiful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, role model, and friend, Lydia Schodorf-Vandiver entered peacefully into heaven on May 10th, 2013. Born in Las Cruces, NM on October 15, 1948, Lydia is the daughter of Elias and Mariana L. Lopez. As the second oldest of nine children, Lydia helped her mother to raise and care for her younger siblings. A graduate of Las Cruces High School, she started work as a candy striper at the age of 16, beginning a nursing career that would span over forty years. As a result of her driving passion to help others, she had many accomplishments and touched many people in her lifetime. Lydia moved to Albuquerque to raise her two daughters while attending the University of Albuquerque where she became a registered nurse and Emergency Medical Technician. She worked for Albuquerque Ambulance and became an instructor for new EMT’s entering the emergency medical field. Focusing her dynamic energy on emergency medicine, Lydia moved to the University of New Mexico Hospital emergency room as a nurse and ultimately became a flight nurse on the hospital’s Lifeguard helicopter service. She retired from UNM after 20 years of service to begin a new facet in her career in Oriental Medicine. Lydia graduated from Southwest Acupuncture College as a Doctor in Oriental Medicine which included studies in China to complete her degree. She opened her own practice which integrated theories of both eastern and western medicine. A believer in treating the whole being; physical, mental emotional, and spiritual she also studied traditional Mexican folk healing both in the United States and Mexico to incorporate into her practice. However, helping people through her own office was not enough. Her desire and compassion for those in need drove her to push herself even further. Lydia involved herself with the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault in the community. She helped to develop the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) program in the state of New Mexico and was awarded a certificate from the Governor in recognition for her accomplishments. As the clinical coordinator for the Albuquerque SANE Unit for over 15 years, Lydia personally recruited and trained dozens of nurses in the state to complete exams on women, children, and men who suffered from sexual assault and interpersonal violence. She completed thousand of exams over her years of service and became an expert instructor and witness in court testimony on these issues. Lydia was an integral part of the work to open the Family Advocacy Center in Albuquerque which will positively impact victims of violence for many years to come. She also helped to develop and open La Pinon Sexual Assault recovery Service in Las Cruces, NM. Lydia always strived to improve the quality of health care in all fields of service. As important and fulfilling as her professional life was to her, her family always came first.

Lydia is survived by her mother Mariana L. Lopez, and eight siblings: Erma Nichols, Elias L. Lopez Jr., Alfredo Lopez, Oscar Lopez, Carla and husband Guy Floyd, Dolores Lopez, Monica and husband Pete Dorr, Priscilla and husband Robert Romero. She was most proud of her two daughters, Kerry and husband Jon Caldwell, Darci and husband Russell Blaschke. The brightest light of her life was her five grandchildren, Jarred Salas, Cesleigh Salas, Haley Ryan, Avery Ryan, and Chance Caldwell. She was blessed to witness the birth of her great grandson Noah Elijah Ky Salas and was a kind and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Elias Lopez and was beckoned to and met in heaven by great grandson Jayden Zane Lopez. Her life was an amazing journey towards her new adventure in everlasting paradise, she will truly be missed.

Services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 beginning at 8:30 AM with a rosary and mass at St. Genevieve’s Parish at 100 S. Espina in Las Cruces, A memorial service to celebrate Lydia’s wonderful life will follow at Getz Funeral Home at 11:00 AM.

“And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

Emma Legarreta was born on May 20, 1941 in Placitas, New Mexico to Juan and Ofelia Costales and entered God’s Kingdom on May 5, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Emma spent the early part of her life in various places in New Mexico, including Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Although Emma ended her formal education by the ninth grade, she continued to read and listen and learn and became the smartest woman to grace our lives. When Emma was 18 years old she married the love of her life Hector Legarreta Sr. and entered the most challenging, yet rewarding career imaginable-she became a homemaker and mother to five children, and thus, began the love that enveloped her until the very end.

The next phase of Emma’s life began October 25, 1969 when she dedicated her life to Jehovah God. Emma became an important role model for the young people in her congregation and touched the lives of many people in her spiritual family. She spent the rest of her life loving Jehovah God and honoring him by preaching his word. Because of her undying love and loyalty, Emma knew that this life was just part of her journey and that she would have everlasting life in Paradise.

Emma is survived by three brothers and two sisters, Juan Jr., Jimmy, Lalo, Rosella, and Estella, all from California. Others left to love and remember her are Hector Sr., her loving and dedicated husband of 53 years, her five children, Hector Jr., Danny and his wife Irma, John and his wife Grace, Delilah and her husband David, and Michael. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, Patricia, Jacob, Joshua, Johnny, Daniel, Jenna, Jericho, Matthew, Andrea, Maya, Isaac, Stephanie, Julian, and Mykayla, and 2 great-grandchildren, Azariah and Ethan. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and of course, her brothers and sisters in faith.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Juan and Ofelia Costales.

Emma was beautiful. Her sparkling green eyes and infectious laugh were incomparable to anyone and will never be forgotten. Her inner beauty and strength, though, is what truly made her special. Her willingness to work, help, listen, offer advice, hug, and console was never ending. Emma created a home filled with love, hope, laughter, and faith. Emma was, and will always be, the true meaning of love. Please join us as Fernando Esparza officiates the celebration of her life on Saturday, May 11th at 10am at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hatch, New Mexico followed by a gathering of loved ones at the family home.

“Love is long suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.”
Veterans adopt historical Organ, N.M., cemetery By Diana Alba Soular/dalba@lcsun-news.comlcsun-news.com
Posted: 05/05/2013

ORGAN - Joanie Tyler, who has volunteered at the Slumbering Mountain... (Shari V. Hill/Sun-News)LAS CRUCES — Who knew Edgar Allan Poe was buried in Organ, N.M., on a sloping patch of peaceful desert?

Though not the poet of "The Raven" fame, the late Organ resident also named Poe is one of a number of veterans laid to rest in the quirky and historical Slumbering Mountain Cemetery. Dozens of civilians also are buried on the 5-acre parcel.

The burial plot dates back to an 1885 land patent and Organ's booming days of miners and pioneers.

Over the past year, a local Veterans of Foreign Wars post has taken the cemetery under its wing. The group will hold a cleanup this month in preparation for a Memorial Day event to be held there.

"Our mission is to take care of our veterans and their dependents and the ones who are no longer with us," said Ralph Myers of Las Cruces, adjutant for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6917 on the East Mesa. "The post has adopted the cemetery."

In all, about 300 members belong to the VFW post, and another 120 belong to the ladies auxiliary, said Roger Miller, second-in-command at the post.

The post got involved in the cemetery effort more than a year ago, through one of its volunteer staff, Joanie Tyler, an Organ resident since 1970 and an unofficial keeper of the cemetery.

Tyler, 70, said she once belonged to a committee that included late Organ resident, Herman Weisner, a history enthusiast and veteran, who adopted the job of looking after the cemetery. At one point, he asked Tyler to take over the role, she said.

Weisner died about a decade ago and was buried in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. All the members except Tyler have died, too.
The VFW post, located on Bataan Memorial West, recognized the need for someone to look after the cemetery, Myers said. Roughly 150 graves are on the site. Many of them aren't marked with names, though Tyler has various maps kept by Weisner. In all, 16 veterans are known to be buried there.

Tyler said the veterans organization chopped away desert bushes that had begun covering gravesites and installed lights to illuminate a flagpole and American flag. A group of volunteers from NASA facilities to the north also hosted a cleanup there several months ago, she said.

There are still desert shrubs and cactus interspersed among the graves. Tyler said, however, that Weisner had wanted the parcel to maintain its desert feel.

The cemetery is still open for burials, but arranging one can be difficult because there's no equipment on site to dig graves, Tyler said. The requirement to get a burial plot is that someone be an Organ resident, according to Tyler. Also, headstones are supposed to face the nearby mountains — a defining feature in the community.

Resting place

A prominent feature as visitors approach the cemetery is a large carved wooden sign bearing its name. The sign was created by Russell Leard in 1992, according to a compiled history of the site. Mountains and an angel-like figure are hand-carved into the wood.

The cemetery holds a spectrum of deceased residents from Organ's colorful past. Jeff Ake Jr., who died in 1907 in a mine explosion, is buried there, as is Henry Foy, discoverer of the lucrative Torpedo Mine near Organ, who died in 1935. The grave marker for Mary Miller, 1905-1996, especially stands out because it's a massive wooden bedpost. It was said to have arrived in the area decades ago with her family in a covered wagon over San Augustin Pass.

Poe, 1932-1998, was a union truck driver who moved to Organ from California.

"He was quite a character," Tyler said.

Poe's original flat grave marker depicted a glass with a pitcher of beer. But it disappeared mysteriously on a notable date tied to the late poet of the same name.

"The year after they put up his gravestone, someone stole it on Edgar Allan Poe's birthday," Tyler said.

The marker was never returned. The VFW post created a plaque as a stand-in, but it hasn't ever been installed at the gravesite, Tyler said.

There's also a veteran of the Spanish American War buried in the cemetery, according to Tyler. Union Army soldier Elijah Davis, born in 1850 in Missouri, was laid to rest at the site. Veterans of World War II, Vietnam and Korean conflict, too, are there, according to the records.

One large project the VFW post is hoping to tackle is to put up fencing around the cemetery, Myers said. Now, there's no fence, and the boundaries aren't distinguishable from the surrounding dessert landscape.

"It would mark it because this is sacred ground," he said. "It's easy for hikers and hunters to run over the property."

A hurdle, of course, will be raising money to pay for it, Myers said.

Memorial Day event

Memorial Day of 2012 was the first time the post held its commemorative ceremony at Slumbering Mountain Cemetery. It will happen again this year. The public is invited, Myers said.

"By rule, our members must go to a cemetery and honor the service members," he said.

Also, a week before Memorial Day, the post will host a cleanup event starting at 8 a.m. May 18. Myers said he doesn't expect it to take more than a few hours because there hasn't been much rain to grow weeds. The public is also invited to attend.

"It may take us three or four hours," he said.

Diana Alba Soular can be reached at 575-541-5443; follow her on Twitter @AlbaSoular
If you go

What: Slumbering Mountain Cemetery cleanup

When: 8 a.m. to noon May 18

Where: 300 Heavenly Lane (one block east of 1st Street), Organ, N.M.

Info:

• VFW Post No. 6917: 575-382-9703

• Joanie Tyler, cemetery volunteer: 575-382-5482

If you go

What: Memorial Day ceremony

When: Noon on May 27

Where: Slumbering Mountain Cemetery, 300 Heavenly Lane (one block east of 1st Street), Organ, N.M.

Info: VFW Post No. 6917: 575-382-9703

http://newmexicoalhn.net/For headstone pictures

Omar Martin Saucedo, 29, formerly of Las Cruces, NM, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 in Tyler, Texas. He was born March 15, 1984 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Henry Saucedo and Rosa Aguero. He graduated from NMYCA, where he was named cadet of month. He received numerous awards for his athletic achievements in baseball. He was a Water Damage Restoration Technician for Service Master, in Tyler, TX. He also helped his uncles in their work. His hobbies included baseball, attending concerts and spending time with his family and dog, Apollo. Omar recently found peace with God and had been devout in his religious practices. Omar’s positive attitude and laughter was always a hit in any room. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Omar wanted our Family to show more love to each other more than anything in the world. He had the heaviest hands. When he was five years old he used to turn on the water hose at grandpas house, grandpa would tighten it up as much as possible. Omar would still manage to open it up and make a mess everywhere. Later on he learned how to throw a ninety mile an hour heavy ball. One time he coached his younger brother’s baseball team and inspected everyone’s baseball glove and laughed. He played catch with every player until he broke everyone’s glove. The last glove he broke thumped Julio on the chest really hard. Everyone laughed as boys will be boys. Omar’s passion for baseball was evident in every game he played. Omar never gave up on his dream to play professional baseball. The last couple of months of his life he spent his time running and doing countless pushups, sometimes from early morning until late at night. He spent many quality hours with his father at work, at the baseball fields and just hanging out together. Anybody who knew Omar through baseball please join his family in celebrating his life.

Survivors include his grandparents Candelario and Eulalia Saucedo, and Esparanza Rodriguez as well as his parents Henry Saucedo and Rosa Aguero;

He is survived by his two younger brothers, Louie, with whom he loved playing baseball, (Rachel) and Karlos Saucedo, a large loving family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Nordyke Judd Leland Obit

Judd Leland Nordyke of Hatch, NM, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2013 with his loving family by his side. He fought a short but valiant battle with cancer. He was a remarkable man and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Judd was born October 11, 1940, in Ames, IA, to Max and Lenore (Leland) Nordyke. He graduated from Villisca High School in Villisca, IA, in 1958. He served honorably during the Viet Nam conflict aboard the USS Hamner (DD718) as Machinist Mate from 1960 to 1964, receiving the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for the Taiwan Strait, and again for Quemoy; the Viet Nam Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Judd continued his service in the Naval Reserve until 1977, earning the rank of Machinist Mate 1st class and receiving the Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal. Judd was sent to Washington, DC to do his 2 weeks of Naval Reserve Temporary Duty for several years at the Smithsonian where he catalogued and archived historic items. After his Navy service, Judd joined his brother Craig at New Mexico State University. There he met his wife, Marcia Crystal, and they married in 1968. He received his BA in Education in 1970 and his Master’s Degree in Administration in 1975. He always said he was sent to Hatch to do his student teaching and “forgot to leave”. During his 32-year career, he taught Civics, US History, Southwest History, and computer science, and spent many hours on the road with his students as an Activity Bus Driver. When the State of New Mexico made it mandatory that New Mexico History be taught in all school districts, Judd was assigned the task for Hatch. He researched and wrote his own history book as there was not one available at the time. He loved taking the students on field trips and having “hands on” lessons about how and when New Mexico developed and became a state. As Student Council Sponsor, he arranged for the students to act as pages at legislative sessions for several years. Since many of the students he supervised had never been out of the Hatch Valley, Judd used the opportunity to provide not only exposure to governmental process but to a more varied social experience, by arranging for the students to have meals at restaurants and to dress for the occasion. As class sponsor over the years Judd put on many plays, cook outs, charity drives and really enjoyed working with students to build bigger and better homecoming parade floats. He is remembered for coming up with the first mechanical float; a Bear being shot out of a cannon over the goal posts, and for a self-propelled locomotive with real smoke. He was the last Hatch Junior High School Principal and the first Hatch Middle School Principal when the District made the change. He also held the positions of Athletic Director, Transportation Director, and Food Services Director during his years with the Hatch Schools. He spent much of his time working with the State Legislature, lobbying for funding for the school district, and was paramount in the funding and building of Hatch Middle School and a new Garfield Elementary School, in addition to beginning the process for a new Hatch High School. He retired as Associate Superintendent. Judd put his life into the Village from the day he entered the Hatch Valley in 1970. He was a great Hatch Chile Festival supporter acting either as chairman or committee member for 38 years. His first major project for Hatch was to get a public swimming pool for Hatch’s children. He and his students worked for years with the community, the County and the New Mexico State Legislature to secure the funding needed for a municipal pool. He believed strongly in the need for a public pool to provide a safe place for children to learn to swim and to enjoy the summer months while staying out of trouble, and he believed that a public pool provided a service to the community by reducing the number of drownings in irrigation ditches and the Rio Grande River. After 40 years, his perseverance came to fruition as Hatch’s “Judd Nordyke Municipal Pool” was opened for business in 2012. Elected as Mayor of the Village of Hatch in 2002, Judd was returned to office for two more terms, in 2006 and 2010. During this time he worked with FEMA, the State of New Mexico and Dona Ana County to ensure Hatch’s recovery from the Flood of 2006. In the course of his careers with the Hatch Schools and the Village of Hatch, Judd was responsible for establishing internet capability in the entire Hatch area by way of town-wide Wi-Fi. His goal was always to better the quality of life in the Hatch Valley and with his experience dealing with the State Legislature while working for the school district, he continued lobbying for funding. His efforts are responsible for the Andy Nunez Health Department Building as well as the Hatch Judicial Complex Building. A Hatch Municipal Golf Course was already in the mill as he worked with BLM for a land exchange. He was also a great supporter of Hatch’s Spaceport America Economic Development concept and worked hard to make sure Hatch’s name stayed in front of the State of New Mexico and the Spaceport Authority. While in the classroom, Judd was appointed to the position of Hatch Municipal Judge, a position he was elected to and held for 25 years, and served many years as an officer of the Hatch Volunteer Fire Department. He was an officer of the South Central Council of Governments; a member of Hatch Valle Verde Masonic Lodge and then transferred to the Kingston Masonic Lodge #16, AF&AM Hillsboro, NM when the Hatch Lodge had to close; Hatch Chapter 52, Order of the Eastern Star; El Valle #4308 Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Elephant Butte American Legion Post, and was a life member at large of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. During Judd’s childhood, his family vacationed frequently on Lake Okoboji in northwestern Iowa, and Judd considered himself a “lake rat”. He loved the water and he loved the outdoors. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Judd spent many hours with his family, extended family and friends on Caballo Lake boating, picnicking and teaching everyone he could how to water ski. During his many years in New Mexico, he familiarized himself with the entire state, and particularly the southwestern area. He conducted guided tours for family and friends of the Gila area and proved himself extremely knowledgeable about the entire area. He and his family visited Lake Valley often, and his daughter learned to dance there. He fell in love with Lake Powell in Arizona and Utah and spent as much time as he could on the lake, camping out of his own boat or on a Lake Powell houseboat with family and friends.

Judd is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marcia; his daughter Crista (Norman) Nordyke-Long, of O’Fallon, IL; his son Andy (Tammy) Easterling of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Brandon, Sarah, Kelsey and Carly Long; and Grayson and Payton Easterling; brothers Craig (Ruth) and John (Jeane) Nordyke; brothers-in-law Michael, Robert and Jonathan (Gloria) Crystal; sisters-in-law Stephanie (Barry) Thorp and Judy Crystal; nieces and nephews Wendy (Buddy) Petersen, Jody (Adam) Wacker; Garrett (Nicole), Josh, and Aaron Nordyke; Megan and Josh (Jeanna) Crystal; Adam (Aviva), Marcus, and Eitan Crystal; Priscilla (Darryl) Gentry, Nancy (Craig) Murallo, William (Kimberly) Thorp and Wendy (Christopher) Gamble; and many cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

At his request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10 am, Tuesday April 23, 2013 at the Hatch Community Center, 1001 Hwy 187 in Hatch. If you knew Judd, you know he hated suits and ties, so please come comfortable. The family sends a special thank you to the Casa de Oro Care Center “Angels” for the special and loving care given to Judd during his stay with them. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hatch Public Library, P.O. Box 220, Hatch, NM 87937; Casa de Oro Care and Rehabilitation Center, 1005 Lujan Hill Rd, Las Cruces, NM 88007; Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces, NM 88005; Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
