It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, MARY CHAIRES ORONA, age 73, of Lordsburg on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming. She was born May 26, 1944 in Lordsburg to Francisco and Concha Nevarez Chaires. Ms. Orona worked at La Casa Domestic Violence Center as a Therapist/Counselor and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Those left to mourn her passing include a son, Joseph Orona of Las Cruces; a daughter, Debbie Orona of Deming; two brothers, Angel Chaires of Phoenix, AZ and Armando Chaires of Las Cruces; three sisters, Rosie Ramirez and Alice Dimas both of Lordsburg, Patricia Victory of Tucson, AZ. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Corey, Tiffany and Matthew Orona, Raymond Anthony Anaya, Gabriela and Joshua Ruiz, and Dario Padilla; one great granddaughter, Savannah Orona. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Gina Orona-Ruiz and her siblings, Vicente and Frank Chaires, Olivia Fuentes and Landos Rios.
Visitation will begin at 9 AM Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in the Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S. Espina where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 10 AM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter with Reverend Okonkwo officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho where she will be laid to rest.
Serving as casket bearers will be Raymond Anaya, Corey Orona, Joe Padilla, Kenneth Daugherty, Rick Barrio, and Polo Orta. Honorary bearers will be Joseph Orona, Oton Moreno and George Daniel Dimas.
