DIANE LYN TASKER, resident of Las Cruces, NM, passed peacefully at her home on November 12, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones. Diane was born on December 17, 1949. She was raised in Hobbs, NM and then earned her Master of Arts degree in Education at New Mexico State University. Diane taught high-school social studies classes for over 30 years. She was highly respected and dearly loved by her students and colleagues alike. Diane's former students often commented that her enthusiasm and love of teaching helped change their lives. Diane was an amazing person. She had the most kind, tender, loving soul and a gentle heart. She saw the best in everyone and always radiated positivity. Her spirit would light up any room. In her spare time, Diane enjoyed traveling and attending her Ya-Ya Book Club. But what she loved most was spending time laughing and making new memories with her friends and family. That includes her beloved, rescue fur-babies, Annie & Andre, and the feathered kids, Elvis Blue & Priscilla Green.
Diane is survived by Stephanie Trujillo of Las Cruces, NM; her brother Tim Tasker of Lubbock, TX and his wife Shauna; two sisters Nancy Tasker-Johnson of Las Cruces, NM and Angela Meloro of Albany, OR; two nieces Michelle Johnson of Couer d' Arlene, ID and her daughters Sydney and Ali and Missy Ressler of Grapevine, TX, her husband Steven and their children Maya, Margaret, and Joseph; and one cousin Jim Wilmoth of West Virginia. Diane was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Margaret Tasker of Hobbs, NM. A Memorial Service will be held in Las Cruces at First Presbyterian Church, 200 E Boutz Rd. on November 18, 2017 at 11:00 am. A celebration of Diane's life will follow at Josefina's Old Gate, 2261 Calle de Guadalupe in Mesilla at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dona Ana County Humane Society (dachslc.org), Mesilla Valley Hospice (mvhospice.org), and/or the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (ovarian.org).
