Manuel Rojas, age 87, lifelong resident of Leasburg, NM entered eternal life Friday, September 8, 2017 at Casa de Oro in Hill, NM. Manuel was born on December 14, 1930 in Tornillo, TX, to Mercedes Gonzales Vasquez. During his employment, he worked at various area local farms and numerous construction companies in the Mesilla Valley as well as numerous locales in and out of the Mesilla Valley.
Manuel was a member of Our Lady of Purification in Dona Ana, a devout Catholic, and served as deacon for many years. He took great pride in performing several marriages and accompanying families reciting rosaries for their loved ones. His greatest joy was being surrounded by family and friends and working in his garden. He enjoyed playing bingo and helped run church bingo and VFW bingo for many years.
Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 67 years, Maria Jesus Rojas; two sons, Andres Rojas (Gloria) and Gilbert Rojas (Elfega); four brothers Lorenzo "Lencho" Rojas (Rayos), Natividad "Nati" Vasquez (Mage), Manuel Vasquez (Martha), and Ramon Vasquez; two sisters, Ventura Rojas Beltran and Petra Gonzales. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Hector, Yesenia, Gilbert and Michael Paul Rojas; seven great-grandchildren, Eric, Donald, Carlo, Davian, Sophia, Serena and Michael Paul Rojas, Jr. as well as numerous nieces and nephews and more than 15 godchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mercedes Gonzales Vasquez; grandson, Jesus Rojas; and niece, Caroline Ondelacy.
Visitation will begin at 1 PM on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church, 5525 Cristo Rey in Doña Ana where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 2 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter with Reverend Alonso Quiñones officiating. Cremation will follow and Inurnment of Cremains will be held at a later date.
Serving as casket bearers will be Michael Paul Rojas, Hector Rojas, Carl De La O, Michael Salazar, Benito Brown, and Estevan Nelson.
