Mrs. Emma Apodaca Bouvet of Garfield, NM passed away on September 8, 2017 in her beloved home in Garfield at age 95. At the time of her death she was listening to her favorite hymn (Amazing Grace) being sung by her talented grandson, Christopher Bouvet.
Emma Bouvet, the daughter of the late Nestor and Hijinia Apodaca, was born August 13, 1922 in Albuquerque. Her birth was a double parental blessing in that she was a twin with Esther Apodaca Chavez, now deceased.

She is survived by two of her nine siblings, Paul Apodaca and Vera Apodaca Chavez. In addition, she is survived by six of her seven children. They are Gloria Duran (Estevan), Mary Alice Garay (Ronnie), Barbara Goho (Thomas), Steven Bouvet (Nellie), Martin B. Bouvet (Gilda), and Rebecca Pearson (Thomas). She was predeceased by her precious daughter, Elsie Terrazas (Ernest), in 1987. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and and 3 great, great grandchildren.
She married Martin Bouvet on November 23, 1940 who predeceased her in 1994. Together they were a hardworking chile farming team and later chile processing under the name of Bouvet and Sons. Although she was a New Mexico farming wife through and through, she was an adventurer at heart, traveling the country to see her far-flung brood of children and their children, from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Nevada to East Coast to Puerto Rico. Being deeply religious she visited many sacred shrines in Europe, including Lourdes in France where she felt its healing powers.
She lived life to the fullest in her 95 years. It was a life that was filled with her faith in God, her love of home, family, music, dancing, ice cream, and her extensive collection of rooster-themed knickknacks. Yes, she did enjoy an occasional trip with her siblings to play the slot machines.
Her wonderful life will be celebrated by a visitation beginning at 5 PM on September 13, 2017, followed by a rosary at 7 PM, and a Catholic mass which will be held on September 14, 2017 at the San Isidro Catholic Church in Garfield at 10 AM. Her burial in the Garfield Cemetery will follow the service.
