Eli Schmucker, 77, beloved father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away at his home in Chaparral, NM on Wednesday, January 11, 2017.
Eli was born on March 23, 1939 in Etna Green, IN, where he spent his youth. He served twenty years in the military as a radar technician in the Army Signal Corps and retired in 1980 as a Sergeant First Class. He then spent the next fifteen years working for government contractors in Oro Grande, NM. He also had a love of travel and geography and was attracted to truck driving and transporting cargo. He was finally able to merge these two after retiring from contract work by becoming an owner-operator of his own semi-truck. He was a loyal member of the Chaparral Moose Lodge #2080.
Eli is survived and deeply missed by his four daughters Elizabeth Ann Jones (husband James) of Denton, TX; Martha Arroyo (children Jordan, Jeremy) of Albuquerque, NM; Mary Keith (husband Donnie, children Adam, Makayla, Eli, great-granddaughter Marley) of Arvada, CO; and Sandie Mondragon (husband Paul, children Sophia, Diego, Roman) of Albuquerque, NM; and his former wife Alejandra Medina Schmucker Clemons Wall of Claxton, GA. His sisters Katherine Mast of Centreville, MI; Elizabeth Kuhns (Menno) of Bloomfield, IA; Sylvia Mast (Marvin) of Etna Green, IN; and Ida Wagler of Hutchinson, KS; His brothers Mahlon (Mary Louise) of New Paris, IN; Daniel (Esther) of Franklin, KY; Clarence (Lydianne) of Stanardsville, VA; Joseph (Carol) of Hutchinson, KS; and John Henry (Tillie) of Franklin, KY.
Eli was preceded in death by his parents Martin E. Schmucker, Barbara A. Hochstetler Schmucker Borntrager (and her husband Harvey E. Borntrager); brothers, Alvin, Freeman, Alton, and Herman, his sister Laura Mae, son-in-law Craig Arroyo, granddaughters Brennan and Hannah Jones, two brothers-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial and viewing will be on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Living Water Baptist Church, 727 Sagewood Road, Chaparral, NM, 88081 at 10:00 A.M. reception following. The funeral service and interment will be held at 1:00 P.M. at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906.
