Hi:

I have seen copies of this book at these locations in the web:

Family records, or, Genealogies of the first settlers of Passaic Valley and vicinity above Chatham, with their ancestors and descendants as far as can now be ascertained"
John Littell
1851

A couple of geography questions:

1) What is the area the title is referring to as the Passaic Valley - in terms of old / current county or city names?

2) What does "above Chatham" mean? What geograpical area is he talking about?

My interest, Thomas Hallock, is referred to as: " lived between the 1st and 2d mountains" Does anyone know where this might be? What counties or other places would one go to search for vital records, probate, deeds, etc of this valley, between the first and second mountain?

Thanks
