I've been stuck on this for a while and had at one time found a distant family member who is also stuck on the same person.
Currently I have information that show's that Jacob Simmons, born in 1835, was born in Warren County, New Jersey. That's about as much as I know.
Now, at 15 he was an apprentice for a blacksmith in Sussex County. He married Teresa Ball and had three sons. George Albert, Frank and William. They moved to Susquehanna County, PA and show up in the 1860 census there. In 1888 he married Ida Higley (my greatgrandmother) and had three children; Florence, John, and Anna. They divorced and he shows up in the Delware County, New York Census in 1900 under the name Jacob Simmonds.
Warren County is my brick wall. In the 1840 census, in Warren County, there is a Lida Simmons with two children with the ages 5 and under...does anyone know of this person and their children.
I know that a Philip Simon/Simons/Simmons settled this Area in the early 1700's if I read right, are there any researchers from his family.
This is a dilemma because I come from two different Simmons lines that converge with my grandparents. I squashed one family myth that my grandparents were cousins by finding that they come from two different families. My father and many of his siblings went to the grave thinking that their parents were cousins.
Thanks for reading my post!
