I went to the school the the 1940's, and have a "report card" from 1945 which you might be interested in. She typed them out herself for each student. Do you have any photos of the school, and whatever happened to it after she retired?

It has been so long since I posted this message... Thanks for responding. Is the school you have the report card the Riverside school in N.Y.C.? This school is the last school she was involved with before her retirement. Were you a student of hers? I have all of her books she wrote, including the one she dedicated to my father and his cousin. No, I have no pictures of the school. I have looked up Riverside school in the N.Y. Times Historical newspaper and have found several articles. Thanks for responding..

I was 7 in 1945, and soon thereafter transferred into the public schools from the Riverside School in Manhattan. It was in the 70's along Riverside Drive. For outings or recreation we would just be led across the street into the park. Another time we walked up to Grant's Tomb. I think I was there for 2 years (school, not tomb), then transferred to the nearby PS 9. I checked her 1921 PhD thesis today - which is online in its entirety, and remember that indeed she was big on 'projects'. I worked on a giant model of Manhattan Island. I vaguely recall a kindly older lady, even though my contacts in her office were probably because I had done something wrong/naughty. The building, I believe, no longer exists, and must have been someone's mansion at one time. I can image the report card and email it to you as a pdf file if you wish.

I looked at some the NY Times items - they have the address in the '30s as 104th street. The report card I have says 40 Riverside Drive, which would be a different location in the 1940's, around 73rd street or so.

I would love to see an image of the report card. My email is:
wmwells@earthlink.net

I also would like to send you an image taken around 1919-21 of my father and his mother. I believe it was taken at Riverside Park, which is near where the school was (I think). My father was born in N.Y.C. in 1915 and they lived on
Clairmont St. I would just like for you see if you can identify that it was taken at Riverside Park. If you wish I can also send pictures of Margaret Wells.
I have a copy of her thesis. When she retired she moved in with my father's cousin in New Jersey, where she passed away in 1952.
I have only spoken with 1 other person who actually knew Margaret, and that was the wife of my father's cousin who passed on several years ago, so this is special to me.
Thank you, William Wells
