NEWTON - Martin C. Havens, 80, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at
Newton Memorial Hospital.
Born in
Sussex, Mr. Havens was raised in
Newton and was a life long resident of
Newton. He was a 1947 graduate of
Newton High School. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Havens served in Korea and was awarded the
Purple Heart. He was the owner/operator of
Havens Poultry Farm in
Newton, retiring in 1990. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of
Newton, Mr. Havens enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
The son of the late John and Elida
Snook Havens, Mr. Havens was also predeceased by a sister, Ruth A. Havens
Hardin.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan
Benz Havens; two sons, Paul M. Havens and his wife, Debbie, of Fredon, and Allan C. Havens and his wife,
Luz Marina, of Newton; one grandson,
Trevor Martin Havens; two step-grandchildren, Dustin and Stephanie Klusmann; and one sister, Louise
Thompson of
California.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street,
Newton. Interment will follow at Branchville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday.
