Know this response to Barry's query about Moses Hoffman is long in coming, but wandered back in here today as I am chasing some Hoffmans further back Oldmans Creek in Pilesgrove. Checked notes I'd picked up in the interim, and decided this one a bit obscure.
Inserting Penns Neck people from lists of "Officers Chosen by the Court" as published in the last section of H. Stanley Craig's, "Salem County Genealogical Data, Vol. ll". These names for the most part NOT in the book's index:
1750: Surveyors of Highways: Penns Neck - Cornelius Corneliuson, Robert Conway.
Constables: Andrew Standley, Thomas Carney
1751: Surveyor of Highways: Robert Conway and William Pedrick
constables- Andrew Vanaman, Daniel Lambston
1752: Constables - Samuel Coleman, Peter Boon
1753- Overseers of Roads: Francis Miles, Jacob Pedrick
1754: Surveyor of Highways: Thomas Viccery, George Trenchard
Constables: John Philpott, Jacob Vandevere
1755 Surveyors of Highways: Moses Hoffman, Thomas Vickery
I've left the names as written in the book here, but gave what I think more common spellings in the list of surnames, to help with searches.
I have a bit more in this file, a marriage license for a daughter of Moses Hoffman, Deborah, so if you still have interest, let me know.
