Sawtell/Hart family Pilesgrove, NJ

In about 1715, Zachariah Sawtell moved to Chohansy, NJ from Groton, MA for reasons unknown. I suspect it had to do with forming a new church, but cannot prove. He had a daughter Abigail born in 1722 who later married John Elwell of Pilesgrove. I am trying to establish that another daughter named Susanna b 1724/5 married a man named Hart(t) in the same general area of Salem Co, NJ. My wife's gggg grandfather Zachariah Hart(t) was born in Pilesgrove in 1749, as was a brother Jonathan in 1758.

Also my gggg grandfather Samuel Mead died in Pittsgrove, NJ in abt 1787.

All leads welcome.

Tom

Do you know any more about the parents of Abigail SAWTELL (born 1722) or her siblings?

I know only that Abigail's father was Zachariah Sawtell originally from Groton, MA. He was the son of Obadiah and Hannah Lawrence Sawtell

My husband and myself both come from early Groton, MA roots. When we were able to visit Groton last Fall we took photos in and around the Town Hall, and in the Old Burying Grounds of anything with a name we recognized from our family histories. (Sawtell, Lawrence/Lawrance, Williams and Holden) Some of the photos we have are of some early Sawtell's resting places in the Old Burying Ground. The earliest Sawtell grave we found connected to my husband, was Obadiah's..We also have photos of Abigail (66), Benjamin F.(33), Betty(36), Ede(2), Elizabeth(54), Elnathan(83), Ephraim(83), Hannah(60), Hezekiah(77), Joanna(85), John(61), Joseph(78), Lucy(78), Maria(38), Mary(79), Rebekah(18mos.), Richard(78)and Ruth(68) Sawtell's graves. I don't know if any of these photos would be of interest to you..or anyone else..I would be glad to share them. I don't know how many I can place on this space..I will try one and see what happens.

I am looking for more information on the connection between the Groton, Mass Zacariah Sawtell and Abigail from Salem County. I descend from Abigal and John Elwell, but am having trouble finding the information on her. My family info only says that Abigail's father came from England, but nothing about living in Mass.
Thank You,
Dawn Wood-Yovino

My last research on this family indicated that Zachariah had a brother named Jonathan b. 1756 in Pilesgrove Twp, Salem Co, NJ. He later moved to and died in Ontario, CN sometime aft 1837. He remained a Tory during the Revolutionary War.

Wow, my John or Johnathon Hart came to Ontario from NJ. Wondering if it's the same one. ??? I wish I knew something about his parents or siblings to confirm this but I don't. I do know that on census info in Canada the Hart's in my line claim to be german. Does that ring a bell with you at all? Do you know if your Jonathon was a United Empire Loyalist? Do you happen to know who he married or who his children were?
Looking forward to your response.

Yes, being a Tory was the same as being a Loyalist. I have speculated his parents were Jonathan Hartt and Susanna Sawtell, but cannot prove this claim.

Children of Jonathan were thought to have been Jonathan, Jobb, and Susannah. Jobb died in Kingston, MI.

Most of these folks lived beyond 90. Zachariah in my wife's line lived to be 104.

this is great. I wish I could link the two lines together though. I just don't have the proof that we are talking about the same people.
