I was particulary intrigued by your mention of the Ogden name.
This morning in continuing my reviews of the 27 volumes of New Jersey Will Abstracts I found this in...Volume XXXIII , page 312
1763, March 14, Odgen, Mary, of Fairfield Twsp., Cumberland Co.;
will of. Son, Eleazar Smith, the grain and swine. Daughter, Marthar[sic] Elmer, long cloak. Daughter Rebecca Smith, my saddle. Daughter Sarah Smith, 4(pds), Daughter Abigail Smith, 4 (pds). To all my daughters, Mary Banks, Esther Mayhise, Martha Elmer, Rebecca Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Sarah Smith and Abigail Smith, the remainder. Executors-Theodorus Elmer, and my son, Eleazar Smith. Witnesses Joseph Bateman, Theophilas Elmer, Rebecca Smith, proved April 9, 1763.
Our Thompson and Moses were born ca. 1750 with Thompson's first child born in 1771... listed on the tax role of Oxford Twsp., Sussex County, NJ in 1773. Did your Eleazer Senior have any brothers?
I am dragging myself through the 27 volumes of will abstracts and to date the above is the only clue to an Eleazer.
My 4th cousin(Paul R Smith) and I are FTDNA matched. Seems to be Scottish origin. Presbyterian could be a good bet.
any information you have would be helpful.
By the way, I was in the army with a John Stevens in the early 70s.... any chance that would be you?
Don Smith
